Default Does this dodgy ?

My car (WRX STi5) is advertised on auto trader at £9,950. today i recieved this e-mail.....

Hi my name is *******, saw you car advert on net and like you to know am interested, BUYING FOR Price: £9,950,pls let me know the conditon of the car and if its still available, i will also want you to know that am based in Uk but never mind i have a shipping agent that is going to come for the pickup at your place.
Thanks .
*******

I'm assuming he meant to say he's not from UK, does this sound genuine or should i avoid ?

I've replied with a description and requested cash payment prior to or on delivery which must be banked before i let the car go.

seems to follow same pattern of all the other scams - except they normally give you MORE than the wanted price

If you tell them that ONLY cash will be allowed then they can make up their own mind..

bankers drafts can go through then bounce several weeks later.

I'd run a mile.

Must be banked and cleared, and even then you could fall foul
Even if a bankers draft clears and then found to be stolen, you loose out

and if someone pays cash, take them to the bank and pay it in over the counter. Once its in, any fake notes are the banks loss.

BTW, walk away from this one, it will be a scam.

Cash and walked to the bank is the ONLY way!

Personally I wouldn't even entertain the offer!

gary - yeh. trip to middle east coming up which s gonna be followed by 2 year post abroad (somewhere hot all year round hopefully ) forces sale mate. not selling trackcar though, that'll get stored at my parents if need be .

I said in my reply 'cash only' and i wanted it banked before the car is taken

I personally think its a scam too,

Oh, just noticed the word 'sound' missing from title, doh!

There have been other threads about this scam. It's all to do with international banking. The money clears in your bank, you give the car up, then the foreign bank doesn't clear it, so your bank claims it back out of your account! Or something along those lines.

STAY WELL CLEAR! and tell your friends, too many people getting done by this one.

Yes mate it's one of the most well known scams! My mate had it more or less straight away when he put his on Autotrader.

If you go to the Autotrader website it has a list of all the known scams it's users have come across and this is one of them.

Another cheeky one is someone sends you a txt message asking you to give them a call and it turns out to be a premium rate number, so you get hammered for the phone bill and you haven't even got a woman talking dirty to you for the privilege ;-)

had this as a reply:

Hi Chris,
I will like to say a big thank you for your reply, am satisfied with the
condition of the car think it would be a great buy.Its perfectly okay in
England. I travel a lot in my line of buisness hence the reason why i choose
not to acquire a car since i sold the last one i had. I am ok with the car's
picture and it will be good to let you know that i will be paying you with
a bank draft or company's cheque that was intended for me through services
rendered (£15,000).The only problem is that sum owed me by the investment
company is more than the price of your car. I would greatly appreciate if you could deduct sum
of your car(£9,950) from the amount and have the rest of (£5,050) sent to my shipping agent ( through western union money transfer) so that they will come for
the pickup of the car in your location. I will wait till draft or cheque
clears before i instruct my shipping agent to take up ownership of car on
my behalf. I r eally am very sorry that it has to be this way but i do not
want to miss out on this great buy. Please send me the following information
below so i could have the company make out the draft in your name and send it to you
immediately.Thanks.
full name...............
full address.................
mobile phone number..................
Waiting to read from you soonest

Please post this dip****s contact details and everyone should flood his mail box with mail and reverse charge calls to his mobile number...
It's the only way to stop this kind of thing.

The more abusive message you leave the better!

Default THE NEW INTERNET BLOODSPORT - SCAMBAITING!

best way to deal with ******** like this is to lead them up the garden path - say how you love the idea and will of course send the monies on to the chap- make him think for a while that you have bitten -
