bugeye monster - miles per gallon?
Change of jobs will see me needing to cover about 120-140 mainly motorway miles everyday in total to and from work. I currently run a MY97 Sti (RR'd at 300bhp) and I am thinking of changing to a newer bugeye or blobeye WRX to improve economy.
How many miles per gallon could I expect from one and will I notice a huge difference in performance when I do put the hammer down. Will I be more 'comfortable' on motorways trips in a bug/blob?
Help need please!

Thanks chaps - on reflection 'economy' was the wrong word to use - what I meant is would I get any better than the 200 miles a tank I get at the money (50 litres)? I don't mid averaging 22-25miles a gallon but will a boggo WRX do this on the motorway (mainly off-boost)?

I once (only once mind ) achieved 32.75mpg on a big m-way run. Over 350 miles to the tank in my 03 WRX PPP. Agree with what the others say though. Get a cheap (Clio/Corsa/106) diesel for the commute and save the Scoob. If you can get one for £2k and average 50mpg it will pay for itself in 6 months not allowing for its resale value should you no longer require it. Plus, consider the depreciation on the Scoob if you start putting starship mileage on it and we haven't even considered the extra costs like tyres, brakes, servicing
No brainer, Scoobs ain't mile munchers. Keep 'em for best

Iv'e got a ppp'd 03 blobeye 5dr, and if taken easy you can just about squeeze 280-300 mile's to a tank (60ltr's). and i think you'll find it much more comfy and quieter on the motorway than an sti, (used to have an 02 sti), the performance is a little bit less, but only a little, i reckon you could learn to live with it, DON'T buy a diesel.

Thanks chaps - i must admist I was geeting concerned about the prospect of a Clio or 106 - I can live with the depreciation - much as I don't want to!

U are gonna be doing 30k a year
3 services, 8 tyres, brakes?????? etc..........
30k + for arguments sake - 5k personal miles means you are gonna spend around £5.5k on petrol alone

With my Tek'd/exhaust etc 02WRX (284bhp) I average about 28-29mpg on motorway use. Also worth noting my car is giving 1 bar by about 65 in top if you put your foot down, so not completely off-boost either. As standard, it wasn't any better economy on the cruise. Only difference is how much more fuel I use if I use the extra power.
Standard blobeyes are apparently noticeably more economical (10%ish better) than standard bugeyes.

Brun - you shouldn't be wearing out 2 sets of tyres in 30k of motorway miles, and very limited brake wear too. 30k normal use yes, but motorways should hardly touch the tyres and brakes relatively.

If it's mainly motorway and off boost, I reckon you should get 30MPG or more in standard spec. bugeye/blobeye. I've managed 30MPG on a mixed run (long cruising at 'circa' 80MPH, round towns and villages, some stop start, hilly country and a few fast interludes with boost along the way). My usual is 26-27MPG on mixed bag driving - a higher proportion of stop-start and shorter journeys account for it being nearer 24MPG - which I try to avoid.
