The load space ain't that much better than the saloon due to the rake of the rear screen- certainly on the MY03 anyway.

the floor space is exactly the same as the saloon, just basically a bigger aperature, however a mate has kids, I have a big dog, and seats all the kids us and the dog easily.

I have a 1 year old, and the wagon suits me just fine. You would be amazed what you can actually get in there.

Dr Whos tardis isn't even big enough for the cr4p that has to accompany a kiddie under 3.
Over 3's is a different matter and you get to have some space in your car.
Get the wagon perhaps a roof box if you really need it.
A couple of years down the line you will wonder what the fuss was about - until the next kid arrives

I have three kids a wife and a dog, on my second wagon.
What else will take all that and blow away boxsters?

I've had a wagon since my little 'un was born and it easily swallows up all the kit when we pack her off to grandma's for the weekend (for some peace !)
The seats split as well so if there's only one kiddy you can fit even more tackle in.
I've managed to pack myself, the missus, two kids and all the associated kit for a weeks camping holiday without resorting to a roof box, so you should be ok.

Just become a dad for the first time and now have two little girls and a the dog. All go in the wagon no probs. Even with double buggy in the boot. Not tried to put all the kids stuff in yet to go anywhere far. Even if we do the dog doesnt come anyway.

Missus has a legacy estate for holiday duties anyway.

Quick and versatile. If you want more space and the subaru experinec try a legacy turbo estate!!

2 Kids and a wagon. Not sure it's that much bigger than a saloon - the floor space is the same, but it's probably more versatile. Managed to fill it up on several occasions, and we wonuldn't have gotten all the Christmas presents back from the Grandparents after Christmas without a roofbox.

An MY04 Wagon owner here.

I owned an MY99 Wagon for a couple of years and then traded in. I wanted to go with a MY04 saloon but, after weighing up the load space and the fact you can put the seats in the back forward..... which you can't on the 4 door..... the Wagon won hands down.

Loads of space for me the Mrs and our 11 month old daughter. Practicality and performance in a sweet little package.

Did you also know the Wagon has just over an inch of extra headroom than the Saloon?

I'd guess the main 2 reasons people may be getting rid of Wagons when kids arrive on the scene will be:
1. Scoobies aren't cheap to run and neither are kids but you can't trade the kids in...
2. Full de-cat + wagon = loud = no chance of kids sleeping in the back

I remember the first time I did a decent length trip with my Dad over some entertaining roads and without my Mum in the car, I must have been about 6 or 7. Both of us were grinning for about an hour afterwards !

well i don't have any kids (that i know about) yet...

but i surf quite a bit and the wagon swallows up happily; driver, 2 passengers, 4 boards, wetties in curver boxes all with out resorting to anything on the roof. heavily loaded does even slow it down noticably.

couldn't even fit one board in the boot of the saloon.

Fantastic roads in cornwall too. getting to and from the beach is just as much fun as being in the water. ,

get there much quicker now too

Our 14 month daughter and all her luggage (buggy, travelcot, highchair etc) all fits in for the monthly trip to the inlaws. The wagon also did a holiday to France - just enough room for the booze too

I've had a 9'6" longboard and a 7'10" mal inside the wagon at the same time!

Kids, dogs, wife, luggage, boat, engine, fishing gear .... it ALL fits in the Wagon!!

Its a car for all occassions ........... practical and blows away those slower Saloons!!

The Wagon handles much better on the limit too!!

You can get a hell of a lot of stuff into a wagon. I loaded the entire contents of a flat into mine, and drove from Aberdeen to back Liverpool. It's a handy loadspace with the seats down as well. Fits 3 bikes easily.

Traded my MY03 WRX saloon for an MY04 wagon just before Christmas due to the (at the time) imminent birth of my first in February. As of last Tuesday I now have a beautiful baby daughter and can't fault the wagon, I can load it up with everything we need and I didn't have to trade the MY03 for a boring estate/hatch type thing.

One of the best things is the back seats go down!! In my classic sport the seats dropped so why not in the MY03?? I never did see the logic in that?!

Easy solution. Iv'e got a V7 STI Wagon, Bugeye. We go to spain and mainland Europe 2-3 times a year. With 3 kids, a wife obsessed with clothes. Pack into flat type holdalls, and remove all of the carpet/ poloystyrene stuff, use a bit of initative and you can gain nearly 100mm across the boot floor. 5 VERY LARGE holdalls, footballs and other kids stuff and 40 bottles of Rjocha. Job done. Plus if you put a dog guard in you can load to the roof.

I have got 2 young children and actually went from a MY03 WRX wagon to a MY04 STI. Plenty of room in the back for the children and can still get a double buggy plus more in the boot (actually more than I can in my 318i company car !).
