Default PPP on a Uk Spec Import ?

IS this possible ? I am looking at a MY05 wagon after selling my My03 Sti and was wondering if its possible to put a PPP on an Imported Uk car. I have read various threads on Subaru not honouring warranty and even not PPP ing a car because its an EU import.
Has anyone any experience of this ?

Many thanks
Jas

Unfortunately that is correct, Subaru will not honour the warranty if you import a car from Europe and then get a PPP fitted by a UK dealer. The car will have to go back to the country of origin ie- Holland etc to have it fitted.
Crazy init?

Yup, an Ecutek from a group buy and a few second-hand PPP exhaust bits will give you PPP performance for about half the price.

Yes that's true, but if you really have to have PPP-like performance, the only alternative is to take it back to the supplying country.

Ok Guys thanks for that. The reason I want a newer car is the warranty so I'll have to make sure I buy a UK car.
So just to clear this up PPP is available in Holland and if they fit it then its still in warranty and a uk dealer could do warranty work. Otherwise if a uk dealer fitted the PPP then this voids the warranty ?????
Do you think Subaru UK have seen the standard of some of the UK dealers work.

I had PPP fitted to a UK spec import bugeye by a UK dealer - warranty intact AFAIK. You don't get a Prodrive certificate but you do have your invoice saying that you've parted with the appropriate amount...

It's ridiculous that you have to pay the full amount, but don't get the warranty, which surely makes part of that price When my car is >3 years old I might get a non-warrantied PPP if the price was competitive. Come on Prodrive.

Just spoke to local dealer they say no problem, bring invoice for car (not sure why), UK certificate of conformity (SP?) (I can understand this), they will register car with Subaru UK and its all ok and order parts for it and then fit it at 1K service.
Mentioned that it had to be a UK spec car and they would be ok with it
Might differ from dealer to dealer, would suggest ringing them and asking them.

Wouldn't it be better to seek confirmation with IM? after all it is they who will or will not be honoring the warranty?

I had my MY02 EU import PPPd by a UK dealer and didn't get IM's men in black round my house to burn my warranty and spit in my eye.
I also checked with Prodrive first, and the dealer who both said there wouldn't be a problem. The PPP kit is well within the safety limits of the engine, it's only third-party modifications that are frowned upon.

Glad they did it for you but it is still very unclear imo as to what the Subaru Policy is on this - to leave it up to individual dealers is bound to lead to confusion.

To clarify though, the issue as I understand it with warranty has nothing to do with the safety limits of the engine - why allow it on UK cars and not on Eu cars on those grounds as they are essentially exactly the same cars ?
The main reason is that the policy, or lack of clarity around it at least, acts as a discouragement for some people to go for 'grey imports' rather than through the established UK dealer network.

I looked into this when i was considering PPP.

I spoke to my supplying delaer who spoke to Subaru Benelux who rang me back. Ever hear of subaru uk being that helpful.

If I had PPP fitted at a authorised dealer in the UK and faxed them other the invoice ect, they would make a note on my file (or check it had been updated ?), the only warranty issue would be on the replcement parts, ie they would not warranty the PPP parts.

When a warranty claim is made the dealer authorises it through the system and the authorisation is made by the original importing dealer (ie subaru benelux) im not sure IM get involved at all.

I would check with your local importer / dealer before doing anything, But I would expect this to be the case for any country where PPP is available. and where it is the same as UK spec car / PPP. hopefully !!! :-).

This is where modifying euro import cars has an advantage over uk cars as the local dealer doesnt give a stuff as they / IM will not be paying for it and charging the original importer labour. The only sticky wicket is if they want to inspect the car.

If you're still confused and need confirmation, obtain it in writing from the supplying dealer.
The lifting of the block exemption rules may also have a bearing on this issue.
And don't mention 'grey imports' to your dealer, it means JDM cars - EU cars are parallel imports, very big difference !!
