Bored of Scooby Handling
I have an 04 WRX PPP, no other mods. Getting bored of the lack of feedback and that the handling just is too safe (= boring). Have thought about getting rid in P/x for VX 220 Turbo or similar (ie: Elise). Thoughts anyone?

Have you really given it that much stick to get bored!!
Day to day driving can be boring but then it always is in any car, I took a mate for a little run last night, popping and farting around in the gears, sliding through a 90 right-hander and actually remember thinking to myself, how the hell could you get bored of being able to do that
Either your a lunatic everytime you've drove it, or your just not given it the stick it sometimes deserves

I can see where Fimo is coming from in some respects. Just depends on what you want from the car. If you want more feedback, try the 05 model - it's a different beast.
Elise / VX220 are wonderful cars - I test drove a 111R a few months back. Fantastic car, but if I'm honest, I don't think I could have lived with it everyday. Therein lies the problem - there are very cars that combine the power, real world pace and practicality of Scoobs.
When I started looking at new cars, I fancied something different - preferably RWD. I wasn't so interested in ultimate power, but I did want something that was fun (and still quick). Try an RX-8 - I did - mine arrives on March 1st!

Know what you mean. The handling and traction on a WRX will not easily be upset by a heavy right foot on the loud pedal.
You really have to get the car unsettled/unbalanced, by trail braking, flicks or the like to get it out of shape, and often at speeds that mean doing on the road would be suicidal.
Still great cars though.
Cheers

Good point Fimo. I've always felt driver involvement was highly overated for the scooby (can't speak for 2005). They're quick but they don't tell you what's going on and god do they understeer too much.
RX8 sounds like a great idea.... it's got to be RWD if you want proper driver input.....or a 205GTI or MK1 MR2!!

Depends if you know how to push it I guess. I have loads of fun every day on the way to work, plenty of space to drift etc.
Id like to try RWD one day, but the lengths you can push a scoob and the safe drive in the wet is hard combination to beat.

You have to bear in mind that its set up erring on the side of safety- whilst someone used to quick cars will be able to handle it, someone coming from something of 'lesser performance' could be caught out quite easily.
I would be inclined to get the suspension tweaked with whiteline droplinks and a rear ARB, then a full geom setup by someone who knows what they're doing.
That should sharpen it up quite nicely

Thanks for the above. I think you've summed it up. It's the understeer/safe set up which means that you have to be a nutter to get something interesting to happen on everyday roads. That's why I was thinking about RWD.
Had an MR2 in the past, and kind of miss the mid-engined rear wheel drive setup-which lets you 'play' with the rear end at sensible speeds
Coincidentally had a good look round an RX-8 the other weekend and was impressed. Perhaps I should take one out for a play.......
(I realise its front engine RWD!)

You should definitely look at a Japanese-spec STI with DCCD, maybe a Spec C. These cars have a 65/35 rear torque bias and, if my '05 car is anything to go by, offer very sharp handling and much better feedback than the more comfort-oriented models.

Yep, a cheap 1.8 MX5 can give superb thrills, go cart feel and cheap to run.
BTW, I was amazed at the improvement in my scoobs handling by just getting Eibach's and Powerstation do the alignment.

Elise is the most fun car I have ever driven(Not that I have driven that many). Owned a classic Scooby for 18 months, for fun, the Elise wins(However the new STIs are undoubtably a step up from the classic I owned). However as has been said, not everyone want to live with Elises everyday, I do, and love it. Every car I have driven since getting the Elise feels numb.
Also recently got some pax laps in an MX5, and I can believe what everyone says about them. Felt like it was fun to chuck about.
