if its one of the triangular ones, sometimes you can let the tyre down and widdle it off

alternative, *which my mate did, borrow a stihl saw and cut it off.

Angle grinder you could remove it by taking apart the front suspension etc but it's a bit drastic

you could be getting yourself into even more trouble by removing it.

not very Hollywood I know, but I would suggest paying up

Word of warning. Our landlord at work has employed the services of a clamping company and they take a photo of your car once clamped. 1) if you make a claim they damaged your car they have photographic proof otheriwse. 2) if you dismantle the clamp and drive off they can phone the police and it becomes an offence.

Some lads got clamped and went off to wilkos to get a hacksaw. Drove off and the clampers called the police - not sure what happened after though.

Its a case of pay up and it get removed for you. or you remove it and the Old Bill will come for you, Criminal damage and possible other offences as well.

If you chose to park where you should not, then you only have yourself to blame. You cant blame the clampers.

Yeah, but they use digital cameras so surely these don't stand up as evidence?

If you damage the clamp you are heading into a load of trouble, As said some you can let the air out of the tyre and remove it, some you can jack the car up and get to all the wheel nuts, undo one at a time and remove the wheel/clamp as one unit and slip it off.
If its one with the chain looped round the bottom arm you can split the bottom ball joint and again slip it off.

DO NOT DAMAGE THE CLAMP, CHAIN AND OR LOCK

Unless you have been illegally clamped, in which case take photos, remove clamp sue the clamper for unjustified constraint.

As far as i'm aware if you can remove it without damaging it and hand it in at lost property than there is'nt a thing they can do about it, we did this in front of the manager of the place where we were clamped !!! I explained this to him and even the police turned up just as we was leaving and did'nt say a word to us.
Maybe just lucky or maybe its true, dunno ?

I have always believed if you can remove the Clamp without damage and its been placed by a private clamping company. There is no offence as they have nothing in Law to say you cant remove the clamp. A choice I would do is get a recovery truck with Hiab to lift the vehicleand remove the whole lot to my home. I would then remove the clamp in any means and with said clamp and car removed I would destroy the evidence and nothign would be able to be proved that You hadnt paid the fine. You could even get a mate to do you a false receipt.

Jack, socket set, ball joint splitter.

If the chain is between bottom arm and the drive shaft

Jack the car up, undo ball joint retaining nut, using ball joint splitter, split the bottom joint, rotate bottom arm down until you can slide the chain free. Remove clamp, take pictue to show no damage to the clamp.

Some run the chain above the drive shaft and below the TCA, if so as above but split the track rod end and remove chain.

hope this helps.

Where is the car clamped (as in location)

5th Gear TV show, last year, covered a whole range of removal techniques. For the small, cheap things favoured by the cowboy clampers, they showed that you could just drive away and the clamp would fall apart.

In Paris when wheel clamping was introduced anybody that saw a clamped car put superglue in the lock of the clamp. The clamping company then had to drill out their own clamp when they wanted to remove it - this cost them so much money the clampers stopped doing it. Good ol' french - organised direct action instead of just moaning about everything like in this country.

If its not on council or government own land then the clamper/ company have to take you to court themselves!

If is an offence to remove one fitted by the concil or police!

They could take you to court for the damage, but not for removing it!

Its only criminal damage if the wheel clamp company can find the clamp after you removed it, there will be no proof you were the person to remove it unless there is video cameras everywhere.

There are no laws of trespass in this country other than governemt land.

Clamps fall under the shady trespass laws.

Cut it off and play dumb.

go tell them you share the car park with them, and you couldnt park in one of your designated spots, because someone from their firm was parked in it, so you chose to use their space.

we had this with the people that share our car park.

If its padlocked then you can use an angle grinder to cut it off. To stay legal buy a replacement lock and hand it into the plod station along with the clamp.

(or you could could find the clamping van and clamp 'em )

See that you use a thick sheet to protect you car from sparks/swarf. I had a nearly new car with rusty windows once; I learned the hard way.
