£13,500 private sale for mine 3 weeks ago (non prodrive 02 STi)....and that was after no interest for a couple of months!
Was selling in London though I'm sure it would have sold quicker/for more elsewhere...

Keeping a car for 3 years plus definately seems to be the way to go. Oh yeah, and never buy a new car
Amazing second hand bargains to be had.

Never buy a new car at UK list price is probably a better moral to the story. My 02WRX cost <£17k OTR new as UK spec Euro import (UK list price was £22k + £500 extra for anything other than white paint at the time) probably worth £10-11k now(?), so not too bad deprectiation IMHO. After 3 years when warranty isn't an issue, it will be worth virtually the same as a UK car; suspect it will be worth say 50% of it's cost after nearly 4 years?

Parker's guide seems to be, by far, the most pessimistic. This month's Glass's guide quotes £15500 for a MY02 Prodrive and that's the bottom figure representing trade-in value. This will not take into account mods like PPP.
If you look at the Subaru website, you can search for prices of used cars across the country. Typical prices for a MY02 Prodrive are £17-20k. I know all this because my MY02 STi is for sale at present.

When the Impreza first came out in 94 you could trade in your car for a new one every year and only lose £1500. As soon as the waiting list disapeared values fell through the floor.
If you are going to buy an expensive brand new car with a non prestige badge and sell after 2 years you have got to be prepared to take a serious hit.

Sorry, don't have Glass's guide - figure given to me by dealer.
JoeyDeacon
The lowest figure in Glass's guide, I believe, should represent the lowest money you should get for the car ie selling the car to dealer and not part-exchange. A Subaru dealer offered me £17.5k for my car against a new Legacy about 2 months ago.

BREMBO'S OR BIG DISC UPGRADE?
I have been looking around for prices, on uprated discs and pads or big disc and pads conversion. The prices are all within 20-50 pounds depending on where i tried. And the big discs around the £600 mark. Now for that sort of money i have seen Brembo's complete with discs, advertised. What size disc do the brembo's use? Or would i be just as well to uprate to drilled, grooved or combined? and keep the standard size. I have a V7 STI WAGON BUGEYE, and for some reason subaru used the standard 4 pots (they think people who drive wagons are more sedate) which are very good any way. And i have 19" RSGT on at the mo. What do you lotreckon?

I went for a nose around my local EVO dealer ship.....
He gave me the usual.......
He then rang Robinsons(I think) who told the sales man that they had given a px price to another customer on a 52 reg MY02 sti for £13,500.
The px price seems to be around £15,500 - but when a subaru dealers ship tell another he offered £13,500 the salesman then decided that the book price goes out of the window.

It was up for 23k when I offered 22k (cash no px) for it and they said no - so I told em to p!ss off as it was a point of principle. Bought a WR1 and then they rang me back to "make a deal" a couple of months later. Glad to see they did drop the price for someone in the end

Welch's seem to not like negotiation - they hang onto their sometimes over-inflated prices for ages. Which is annoying for me as they're my closest dealer. Can backfire on them though - it must have taken ten months for them to sell that 02 green bugeye last year....

You can get STIs for around 13k on the used market. I wouldn't be getting a Bug 02 for £17k.
I bought my 03 STI with PFF7's, PPP, Quickshift, Gauge Pack, Strut Brace and other goodies for £17k last July 04. £14k depreciation in a year S
And it's white
