that also suggests that you and your hubby don't know your cars either....

How long after buying it did it take you to find out?

The car has no badges on wat so ever, plus on docs it just says impreza and next to model it says nothing! so we had to do our own research, we bought it with him SAYING it was WRX and that was fine with us as it is our first scooby!

An yes we do Know our cars but when a car has no badges or no meantion of model on docs it gets you thinking!!!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but aren't just as liable for not spotting what car it was(or wasn't)? Unless it's a v2, sti's have red intake piping + an sti strut brace?

My STI 1 had no red manifold, but did have intercooler w/s, STI logo seats, STI strut brace, plaque under bonnet.

If it is a version 1 this site will be of interest to you :

A friend of mine had an early Sti, wasnt red top. Since hes a mechanic, last summer he stripped his whole engine, tarted it up and powder coated it blue. Hence he has a Sti with a blue top engine

see http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm

The 7 digit "applied model" code found on the vehicle identification plate inside the engine bay is decoded in the following way.

1. Series code G=Impreza S=Forester B=Legacy etc.
2. Body type F=Wagon C=Sedan
3. Engine type 8=2.0L Turbo
4. Year code A=MY93 B=MY94 C=MY95&96 D=MY97 (facelift) E=MY98 F=MY99 G=MY00
5. Number of doors 2=2 door coupe 4=4 door saloon 5=5 door wagon/hatch
6. Model type 8=WRX 7=RA type E=Sti D=Sti Type R & RA
7. Transmission D=5 Speed Manual AWD P=4 Speed Automatic AWD

I have an STi V1 and it has no red manifold, however it does have the STi strut brace, if yours is a V1 it will also have a number plaque in the engine bay next to the near side suspension strut showing which number it is and also the date built and it will have a plaque at the front saying hand crafted by STi
It should also have STi front seats and a Nardi STi steering wheel (unless changed)
