Bog standard supermarket unleaded is down to 79.9 ppl in Milton keynes, I'll have to check the shell station near me for optimax prices but that's down 4p a litre from a couple of weeks ago. I'd guess optimax would be about 85.9 ppl, SUL somewhere in between...

Strange isn't it, I saw a shell tanker filling up the pumps at Sainsbury's in Nantwich a few weeks ago, I hope he'd got his petrol from Sainsbury's refinery, and not from the Shell refinery, otherwise its making us all look a bit stupid.

I've seen a few Shell tankers in Eastbourne over the last couple of weeks but haven't seen where they've filled up. Can't be a Shell garage as there aren't any for about 20 miles.

petrol is all refined to a british standard (look on the pumps ) Shell swap with BP Esso with Total and so on , supermarkets dont have refinerys , so they have to buy of the major oil companies , anyone who says supermarket petrol is crap is talking crap !
I have been delivering the stuff for 13 years , and deliverd Shell petrol to Total stations , Esso petrol to Total stations and so on
unless you feel the need to pay over the odds for opitmax , any supermarket super unleaded is just as good as the rest

Sh*t a brick i thought i was just stupid but least now i know it wasnt entirely my fault. it was only the nice guy on the till who wouldnt start the pump for me that saved me an expensive pump out

ps you still have to pay for the wasted petrol

my knocklink perfoms less on Sainsburys than the Esso Super up the road... Optimax however is ok but lumpy when cold... overall actually sainsburys give the better all round performance... <gets up to get fire protective jacket>

if you have a highly tuned jap import that was designed to run on higher octane fuel , then use optimax I think its the highest octane fuel in the uk at 98 ron (or so Shell says )
if you have a uk car designed for uk fuel , find the cheapest you can get an use that , when Subaru or Prodrive recommend me to use a certain brand of petrol I will (but if they did i woudn't have bought the car in the first place )
if your knocklink is lighting up or whatever they do , change garages its more likley the garage has dirty tanks , water contamintaion or the delivery driver has got things mixed up slightly , all of which will lower the octane content of the fuel

why dont you get the wife to fill the scoob up and not to tell you where its from , I will bet you can't tell the difference between fill ups
after all scoob ownership is expensive enough without making more so

For some reason my car tends to run better with a mix of optimax and sainsbury/esso super, rather than using a tankful of one or the other.

@fizz

have to agree m8. i have tried them all and there is not a chirp from my knocklink at all. now we only get 97ron over here in Northern Ireland but when i am over on the mainland and fill up with optimax i still can't see (or feel) and difference. now my car is not what you would call standard either and is pretty quick (12.17 quarters) but i dont know why ppls slate the sainsburys stuff as i think it offers exceptional value for money, more so if you do your shopping there (extra 5p/litre off if you spend more than £50).
