Rough cost of re-mapping an already tek 3'd ecu?
As above, I have a my00 full decat and filter, and wondered what the cost would be of having an already tek3 ecu remapped to suit my car, bearing in mind that the license is already paid????

unless you know who mapped the car then you could get a better deal as if they have saved your map it would only need tweeking
remember the licence goes with the car and not the ecu if I remember correctly

Cheers guys, Bob did it, so undoubtedtly he'd have an idea of what it was !!
Didn't realise the license went with the car, thats a bit daft innit??
Also, the ecu is already mapped for a decat and filte, would that mean it'd be safe to run on my car, or would it still be worth the cash to get it altered??

When people refer to a custom map, it doesn't necessarily mean the mapper does a custom map for every single car. Pat did mine and as my car had a full decat and air filter he had "one that he made earlier" on his laptop and used that.
He took me out for a spin and checked everything was ok obviously, but he did not create a *new custom map* for my car, he used one stored on his laptop.
I can't speak for Bob Rawle, but I would think he would work in the same way and have batches of tried & tested maps that he uses for different cars depending on their modifications and country of origin ie- Jap WRX's & STi's etc.
Like you said yourself, Bob would be able to advise you what's best but I would be reluctant to pay £400 without speaking to him first.

When Bob did mine - we spent almost an hour driving very fast, with lots of teaking so I reckon that was probably a custom map. I don't think he'd even consider looking at a car and say "OK - its a JDM STI9 - so I'll download this map - £400 please".
I'm not sure that the licence does apply to the car - fairly sure it applies to the ECU - but I might be wrong.

Ecu "holds" the "licence" its an encoded key.
Since all cars ares different, sometimes to extremes, whats custom mapped for one is not going to suit another even with the same mods

If you think about it, even identical cars will have slightly different sensor outputs (MAF / TPS / Lambda voltages) and they all run differently becuase of that.
I imagine plugging in an already mapped ECU is never going to be quite right for that reason, even if it has the same mods...

Bob mapped mine from scratch and he saves every map he does on his laptop, hence he can refer to each individual car he has mapped and offer subsequent mappings at "reasonable" costs IMHO,
its a bit of a cheat to just use a pre-determined map with a zorst and filter type map ect ect, which is what puts me off tek 2's from PE ect. The amount of time Bob fettled with my car before he was happy you just dont get that level of detail or precision with a pre - prepared catch all map.

Any 'one fits all' map will not be gaining the maximum performance from the spec of the car.
Yes you can have a base map to start from which saves some time but each car requires its own dedicated fine tuning session.
