Advice please on final stages of getting import.
Hey all,
My car arrived in the country last Saturday and its now ready for me to get it to ScoobyClinic for its SVA and then to Sheffield to get UK Registered.
However,
What is going to be the best thing for me to do to get the car from Southampton Docks to Chesterfield?
Should I get it trailered? If so any ideas on cost for this? Any recommendations for companies?
Or should I get it driven up? Whats the crack with this?
Is it totally illegal or are there ways round it?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Ta,
Adam.

I would go and get it myself; that said I had my last car delivered, I was offered decently priced delivery at £100 though. You are allowed to drive it up if you wish to do so, you musnt break any speed limits though as you wont have a registration plate.....

It needs to be insured of course; go to the VRO off Cemetary Rd and get an 'import pack' it will tell you everything that you need to know.

Thats not the case I assure you; youve spoken to someone who doesnt know what theyre talking about; in fact, I have a leaflet here from them clearly stating that you may drive the car in this circumstance.

DoT leaflet P15; Section 3; page 15:
After arrival the only circumstances in which you can drive the vehicle before completing these formalities are from the port of entry to your home address/first destination, to and from a pre-arranged SVA/MOT test and to and from a garage for remedial work.....
So: as you were. Id drive it up slowly after checking all fluids and filling up with Optimax. All petrol is drained before loading as its a fire risk (batteries are flattened too). They put a little ****e in to start and disembark it but you musnt run the car on it.

DVLA HAVE CHANGED THE RULE RECENTLY.
They wrote to many impoters and shiping agents including YUWA.
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE A CAR ON UK ROADS WITHOUT TRADE PLATES.
Sorry, but reliably informed, get it delivered, its rare but your car may run out of fuel / may not have any oil. Only happend to us once in 100''s of pick ups, but we now get our car delivered on a flat bed.

Im told now that whilst you may no longer drive from the port you can still drive the vehicle to pre-arranged appointments for testing and remedial work so: the solution will be to book an MOT appointment here is Sheffield and then drive the car from the docks to that appointment, if you see what Im getting at. This is quite legal and can be confirmed on the DVLA's web site.
I have to agree that a Scooby or an Evo isnt the sort of car Id usually collect: youre looking at at least £200 cartage from Southampton though.....
