Default Help the boots flooded

Noticed the boot has seemed a little damp recently, just thought it was water coming in through the stale air vent and getting past the lining as it doesn't fit to well now after I took it out to put some sound deadening stuff in there.

Just been out to take a look and found about 2 pints off water sitting just below the jack!!

Does that portion of the body have a drain hole?? Looking on the outside of the wheel arch and there is some of that weatherproofing stuff missing and what looks like the seam sealant missing of the inside from the join on the wheel arch to the body.

Its now stuffed full of newspaper in an effort to dry it out then I'm going to attack that suspect seam with silicone sealant. Whats the best stuff to replace the wheel arch lining with.

Simon, if it's a classic, there's a rubber bung under the spare wheel. That will help drain it out.

Most of the leaks tend to be from the rear light clusters (the seal rather than the lights)

Hope this helps a bit

Check the rubber seal around the boot, they tend to split around the top part after a while.

The seals fine, the water was collecting in the space between the bumper and the wheel arch, literally below the stale air vent on the passenger side. The light seal look fine too, I cannot see any water path from there to where its collecting.

I had this.

Check rear lights for leaks.................very common, just require re-sealing.
Also check the seals on the stale air vent thingies.

Mine was actually coming in where the high level brake light wire comes through.

there is a pipe that runs from the fuel filler down to the bottom of the panel, sometimes these come off and fill your boot with water, also on my p1 the little dimple at the top of the quarter rusted through and the water leaked in that way.

The damage

Just found the little hole in the bottom of the rear screen blocked. Might explain the water path.

and where its all been collecting

Worked it out, the gutter channel down the back window was blocked. It now flows nice and freely. Just now have to repair all that rust and hope I get it all.

Anybody know a good rust killer?

The reason I don't think its leaking from the rear cluster is the top photograph. That rust patch is 5 inches below the rear parcel shelf. And yes it is a classic.

if it were just the boot lid it obviously be removed from car then covered over with a dust sheet and kept in the corner of a very busy body shop oven for a day or two and apparently thats the best killer

I've looked around the rear light cluster and cannot find any trace of water tracking. The only tracking I can find is the wheel arch support (top photo). Also there is a huge bitumen bead in the around the lights where they protrude into the car, the rest of the lights sit behind a second skin.

But never the less I am going to take the light out and re-seal at the weekend.

Cheers guys, I've just been out to look at the seal, and pulled the connector off the light cluster ready to pull the cluster out and...... Yup, you've guessed it, water came out, guess it was the light seal, getting resealed wednesday night or tomorrow night if I have the guts to pull the cluster out in the pub car park.
