Default Airport Parking

Hey ya.

Going away in a few weeks and planning to leave my car at the airport.
Have read a few threads regarding cars being stolen from long-term car parks.

Is it a good idea to leave it there? Any tips to make sure it's still there when I get back? (Only going away for 3 days)

How far is the airport from home ? How much would a cab cost ? How much is parking / petrol ? Are you staying at a hotel the night before ?
Do you fancy a few beers on the flight back ?

I recently got a cab to and from Stanstead and it was great.

The airport is about 30 miles away. Won't be drinking at all, so thats not a problem.

The alarm will obviously be set on the car, aswell as a steering wheel lock

I'm sure it'll be fine there.....but you here stories and it makes you think.

I raised the exact same question recently and got a lot of helpful responses from people who'd actually used various car parks. Main question would be "Which airport?", but Parking Express was recommended for Gatwick south and I found it to be excellent. Main point being that you get to keep the keys, but it's also reasonably priced, you choose a space, it's all automatic, it's quick and easy to drop off and collect etc. etc.

Personally I use Purple Parking's 'meet and greet' service, where the cars are stored in their private compound.

Used it 2-3 times a year since God knows when, and have never had any problems with any of the 3 scoobs I've left there, or the Wife's Rav4.

Having said that, I do think ordinary long term car parks are just asking for trouble, and Diesel's recent experience where they just allowed thieves in to trailer his car away is the ultimate warning.
