a LOT of my mates have or have had scoobys, ive driven loads, - not impressed to be honest.
3 yrs ago yes they were still a bit exclusive which made me like them, nowa days there a rich mans nova! (yes i have had a nova )
As a car to drive daily there great, REALLY easy to drive, light on the steering, comfy, solid, etc, as a performance car, there shocking. very weak car if you drive them hard, gearboxes and clutches galore.
some one said somethin about turbo kick? what turbo kick ? lol compared to a 1.4 escort or whatever, yes there fast, compare them to anything in that league, there slow and boring! ile tell u a little fact, standard there about 170 bhp at the wheels. my mark 1 gte aint a million miles behind a bug eye turboand thats 20 yr old lol
From another board I post on - someone was asking questions about scoobies as they were on the verge of buying one... this is what one whippersnapper said Just interested to see what your replies might be, being owners and all that

Not a million miles....but probably 2 or 3 after 8!

Nothing else to say really...exept he's obviously tried to get insured in an Imprezza and been told where to go...so the green eyed monster is playing it's part...

I would have thought a well driven 1.4 Escort would not be a million miles behind a GTE....

Hi Soulgirl - Looks like the green eye'd monster is about!

Rich mans Nova LOL. Whatever! I am by no means rich - but it has to be said that it is one of the best handling cars for the money. A real drivers car straight out of the box. They can suffer from turbo lag when caught off guard but once they spool up, plenty of grin factor....

It does not stack up does it.....

He either does not realise how quick he's been going in the Scoobs due to the lack of vibration and exhaut noise from his pecco...

OR
All his mates must all be driving around in sports pretending to be in WRX's....

No offence to Sport owners.... I used to own one...

Maybe his mates have only had Sports?

Obviously another uninformed person, who thinks an Impreza has 170bhp and not a nice little 270+ Nova-eater!

I think he would find it very hard to back up any of his opinions with actual fact.

If Impreza's are shocking as a performance car, what exactly does he see as a performance car? Only cars that can do 200+mph?

Wazzock.

Gotta be honest, standard they`re not the best handling car (in my opinion),good value for money and fast yes, bit of a lottery with reliability-some break some don`t,if you drive them hard all the time yer your gonna kill clutches and gearboxes but you would in say an evo.Although i own a scooby you`ve gotta be realistic, theyre not the best performance car ever-just the most affordable.

He said 170bhp at the wheels. Standard Impreza is 215bhp at the flywheel, factor in transmission loss, he's probably actually being generous.

In some ways they are boring in that it doesn't require a lot of highly skilled driver input to drive quickly, although maybe not fast audi levels of competent boring detachment. But some cars are more "exciting" as they need a lot of concentration to drive quickly - think big TVR in the wet.

In many ways though, it says a lot about the scoob that it's being criticised for not being as good as many cars "in that league", rather than comparing with other similarly priced 4 door hatches/saloons. In some ways, I'd take that as a compliment.

Even sports don't do that badly. Ok its slowish in a straight line but not through the corners and they don't kill their clutches or gearbox either, mines done 175k miles on its orginal ones!!!!

He's obviously not been in my Wagon when I select 3rd at 70mph!!!
You don't need massive horsepower just lots of torque.

Yeah, I suppose mines slow & boring too, however it leaves the lights before most, it accelerates like there's no tomorrow & the speedo increases as quick as the rev counter, plus the shopping fits in the boot........

What the hell, each to there own.
