I have a MY98 collected on 1/8/98 from Lancaster Sevenoaks, who have fully maintained it from new. I have covered 19,000 miles and the only mods are a SS backbox and a Sony 10 stack CD player. It has a few VERY minor scratches on the bonnet (would come out with one of those special trade polishing kits) but when asking for a trade-in against a P1 was offered £14,500
What with that and them wanting another £7,000 on top to keep the monthly repayments under £400 I had to cancel the P1. The dealers seem awash with trade-ins at the moment and are offering 'poor' prices against new purchases.
To add insult to injury there is another post on the BBS today stating that they have been quoted £29,500 for a brand new P1 in September

I got £15K for my MY97 with 20,000 Met Green in May. Standard UK car from a dealer traded in against my present £9K slug. It was a nice feeling getitng a cheque from a car dealer
(Oh the car was also stolen recovered and the dealer knew that it had been).
guess that I did quite well.

If anyone out there has a proper guide book(not Parkers !!) they will see that the scooby turbos are getting a 'good kicking' with there used values at the moment....could it be in readyness for the new model ....

Nope... Just about everything... is getting a good kicking. Even BMW are having to give discounts on new cars to shift the metal and this will without a doubt be reflected in the price of used BMWs as well. There is very little out there that is not falling like a stone (some a lot worse than others though). Not a good time to sell any motor at the moment (unless very lucky of course). Certainy glad that I'm not looking to shift my lovely beast at the moment. Sit tight and lets see how it pans out folks.
Enjoy...

Jason,
In March, when the car was a year old I was offered £18,000 in p/ex for a P1.
Obviously now it is difficult with the new model arriving but my dealer has still said they would give me 'over 15k until the end of this year', unless I crash bang or wallop it during that time.
It seems to be better using the dealer that you originally purchased the car from, as they have seen it at regular intervals for servicing etc., so they have a good idea of the history and whether it has been looked after.
My dealer has been excellent throughout and I'll have no probs using them again.

14,000 miles worth of petrol receipts??? For a Scooby?? Where do you store them, in a warehouse???
All prices are nosediving in anticipation of the "realignment" of UK car prices. It's just more noticeable with the Scooby because this time last year, 2nd hand low-mileage models were going for more than the price of a new one.

Frankie,
Agree with you there mate. I've done various enquiries on the value of mine, (MY99 Turbo 20k miles). The most I've been offered, apart from a trade in for another Scoob, is £14,900.
Thats a six grand loss in 18months (sniff).
Oh well! I suppose I'll have to buy another Scoob then. What a shame.......

Yup - the good old days are long gone.
When I traded my 95MY in for an STi just over a year ago - I only lost 3k in 3 years on it!!
Was low mileage though (20k miles on a 4 year old car - that helped a little)

I'm not sure how long to keep mine. It'll be a year old in September. The new shape obviously complicates things. Changing the car after just one year seems like a real waste of money (5-6K). I want to minimise the amount of depreciation I'll suffer as much as possible though.
I'm thinking about the PPP but only if I intended to keep the car for a year or two more.

I sold my P plate Impreza with 32k on the clock 8k of which I did in 3 month's (count em)..Also some daft C***T reversed into the driver's side door and totally totalled it(The door)pluse he/she drove off without stopping!!!I traded it in for a WRsport from the same garage and only lost £800's....The WRsport was £20.000(R Plate)so I had to pay an extra £4.000....so I got £16.000 for MY first one.which is Brilliant (I think!!)

Firstly Markus, excellent link to the Glass's Guide, is this the same price table as the coveted top secret (yeh right) Glass's guide traders book?
If you look at the values of serious money holding cars like the BMW's and the Merc SLK's etc, they all do as good or worse than the Scooby. The SLK is a bit better, but not much in it really.
So, cberry, to answer your question, I reckon about 15,500. I just sold my MY98 in Silver (9500miles) with Prodrive rear wing and front lip spoiler, all colour coded. Absolutely mint, I mean really really good condition, it spent all it's time with this protective clear plastic all over the front, which ended up looking like a dog's breakfast, but when I took it off, there was not a chip or scratch in sight! Inside was perfect aswell.

I'm not sure what you car is worth but take consolation in the fact that new cars in general are falling as well. The main thing is that people can not buy a MY01 at UK dealer price and expect not to loose thousands straigt away as I have with my MY99. Even if the number of MY01's is limited people are too wise to pay the inflated prices and will head to Europe in even greater numbers. It is no good dealers giving European based part exchange values and expecting people to pay list price.
I have already seen Golf VR6 4 motion at £17499 with just 5 miles on the clock. Eventually we should all profit it is just un-nerving at the monment
