BP Ultimate Vs Shell Optimax
#5
LOL... yes its his first post so proper answer.
Lots of people have various opinions (mainly just that - opinions ) on the use of either. Neither fuel will cause you a problem....
Its much better than using normal unleaded..... but i think as your car is a "classic" shape car - you need to re-set the ECU on the car once you have filled up - so it realises its got nice new fuel in it so it advances your ignition and gives you more grunt. If you dont do that i think others have found it can take ages until it realises. You'll need to do a search on re-setting the ECU.
I prefer Optimax - if only because its a bit cheaper than BP Ultimate.... but as long as i put SUL in it im happy...

Nathan, but had you had the car mapped on BP then it would need that
I use Shell myself also.
there are those (incl. myself) that have slated BP when ignition is set up for Shell, ie advanced on a later ECU or mapped on aftermarket.
chances are with either a tweak or a reset it would be fine, but whose got the time for that?

PS, use SUL and BP Ultimate when available - never used Optimax, so can't comment.

Asda Unleaded for me now. 10p a litre difference for little more than a phsyscological improvement imho...
So on my mileage a saving for over £200 a year which I can spend on biatches, bling and ringadingding and my car still eats ctr's, which is nice

True, but I want more octane with less NF for my JDM STi
Plus idle is smoother and throttle response seems sharper. Well it did on my old PPP WRX.

Let me know Andy - haven't ordered it yet but next week's business for sure. Have another home for half of it if you don't want it, so let me know...

Another vote for Optimax. Esso SUL when can`t get any of that. Originally only used normal unleaded from shell or bp, put morrisons in it once never again, it really didn`t like it. Discovered benefits of optimax when i thought i`d give it a treat and the fuel light was on. Seemed to pick up better.

I have used Optimax exclusively for 18 months. Went to Cornwall in the Summer for a couple of weeks, and didn't have any nearby Optimax garages, so ended up filling up with BP Ultimate. I was under full load (with a car full of camping gear) and I ended up getting fuel cut (didn't happen under full load with the Optimax).
So I still continue to use Optimax, and have got a Shell map with all the garages in the UK now - just in case
Make of that what you will.
