Is it just me? don't like STI rear wing and gold wheels?
Folks,
I fancy an MY05 STI but can't get away from the fact that the big rear wing is over the top and gold wheels look cheesy.
I'll probably get a slating from STI owners but this is one of the reasons I'm going down the MY05 WRX PPP route.
I understand there might be a technical reason for the rear wing but has anyody changed this for something a bit less in our face? and the standard wheels for a reasonable price?
Cheers.

You can always swap bootlids and spoilers with someone with the same colour WRX - there are plenty of people wanting to go the other way. Getting wheels refinished in another colour is easy enough too.
You shouldn't be put off buying the car you want just because of a couple of easily fixed styling issues - although the WRX (esp. with PPP) is a very decent car and it's unlikely you'll be disappointed. Drive both - maybe your dealer can sort something out if you ask, but if not, there are plenty of others out there who will help.

I'm a half way between person, I love the big rear wing, but hate the gold wheels with a passion. Thats why I have silver rims on my sport even though gold would suit it very well as its dark blue, but am looking in to the into the big sti 4 -6 wing

If then you wanted the big spoiler version - you buy this one instead of the smaller. I know Subaru uk scrapped this due to most people buying the BIG rear wing but as stated not everybody wants this.
What are all your views etc??

A friend has a white spec c without a wing at all on the back - it really looks the dogs. Very stealthy. But it does have gold wheels.

Ive seen STI8 Spec C RA's at the Subaru garage here that dont have any spoilers! They actually look very good! They are white and have Gold alloys though!

I have a MY03 STi PPP in blue with gold wheels and the picnic table on the back.
don't like the gold wheels and the spoiler/scoop are a bit too much in your face for my personal preference, but after having test driven one I looked beyond that and bought one anyway because the driving experience is so fantastic

so I'm not alone and I agree with ProdriveSTI that there should be an option to buy a low spoiler as there was with the 2002 model.
I think the first point of call is to test drive both (WRX PPP and STI) and then enquire about the necessary de-boying of spoiler and wheels if needed !!

I thought the big spoiler and gold wheels were OTT, but I was more interested in stealth so went for black WRX. More than happy with the WRX (but never driven an STI)
IIRC, for the WRX, the spoiler is fitted by Subaru UK at the docks, along with the alarm. It is not shipped from Japan with it. If the STI is the same, it should be easy for the dealer to arrange to fit a WRX spoiler on an STI.
Don't know about wheels though - worth asking.

My dealer swapped my Sti bootlid with a WRX and had some silver wheels so it'd fit in with her in doors' car policy!!
I've had it three months now and i'm not sure whether i should've left the big spoiler on though!

I think it depends on the colour of the car with the gold wheels.
I think the blue & black look good with gold wheels but silver and white should have silver. Not a fan of black wheels at all.
I did a poll a little while back about silver or gold wheels on a black STi and the majority reckoned gold wheels looked better on black, especially with the gold brembos.
Oh.....and personally I prefer the big STi spoiler to any of the others!
All down to personal choice at the end of the day.
