Question

I would have put this in the specific directory, but I don't know what it is....

I have recently bought a brand new MY00 Scooby. It has just had it's 1K service after being kept below 4,000 revs for the 1000 miles.
So this weekend I thought I would drive a little more swiftly (nothing mad). And I have noticed a noise / vibration? in 1st or 2nd gear I seem to get a Grrrrrr noise or vibration in the region of 3,900 to 4,500. It appears to come from in front of me, ie the right side of the engine. Doesn't seem to be the same point each time. It disappears if I change up.
My questions are these.... (finally ) Any ideas what the noise is? And is it normal? I don't keep the car at this point and change up as soon as it happens (it's a horrible noise and sounds expensive) Am I doing harm?

Please excuse me if I'm being stupid, but it's my first Scooby and I've never had a car make this noise before.

Thanks

Mojo

Cool

Fear not

This is the clutch/brake pipe (one of the 2! - cant remember which!) vibrating on the bulkhead in the top o/s corner

Dealer should do it under PDI/warranty, just needs relocating slightly.

Sunlip,

Thanks for the info.
Should be simple to put right then? Thank goodness, so may things begin to go through your mind....
I'll get them to have a look now I know what to tell them. I'm glad it made sense, I never know how to describe things.

Cheers

Mojo,
I had exactly the same symptoms on my MY00 which also turned out to be the brake lines vibrating against the bulkhead, although on my car they were the n/side lines which were vibrating.
Anyway, all the dealer/mechanic "adjusted" them slightly (30 seconds work) and all has been well since.

The pipe that is causing the problem is located O/S of car on the bulkhead, group of pipes(4 I think) just above the servo. The pipe concerned is the lowest and has a black sleeve on it.Bend the pipe down slightly and slide the sleeve along so it fits under the white plastic clip.Hope I have explained that clearly enough.Much easier doing it than writing it.

Regards

Steve

I had a similar sound, on mine it was the pipe for the AC, behind the intercooler, that rubbed against the mount, just loosen, pull out, and tighten hard.

Cheers Guys,

It sounds like it's a pipe bashing against the bulk head then. I'll get it looked at as soon as poss.

Steve,

I'll print your directions and see if I can follow them. If not I'll get Subaru to do it.

SecretAgentMan,

I don't have Air con. I just put the windows down and drive faster. Cheers though.

Mojo (So glad to have the ScoobyNet back)
