Picking up my 2005 STI tomorrow and the dealer told me off the record there will be a new PPP package in the new year to compete against the FQ400.
Role on.
Anybody else awaiting their new prodrive wheels ?

personally I'd love them to just make it 340bhp and take 15% off the weight, that would give a better Power/weight ratio and have less strain on transmission/brakes and engine components.
IIRC the newage engine/Gearbox/transmisson is still fairly reliable at 380Lbs of torque as STD.
with those fiques surely a 2.5

I Test drove a Jap Spec STI 2005 at David Hendrys that had 309 BHP and they said if i had the exhaust for it it would add another 40 brake and all the standard equipment would take the extra power. So may be its not a fairy story.

Get a Type 25 mate - 2.5 engine and 350bhp right now.
I've heard a few rumours about the 2.5 engine coming officially to the UK, though none of them from a reliable source.

I know the JDM's can produce the higher bhp figures, it's the uk engines that don't seem to be able to do it reliably.
The 2.5 turbo is in the UK now, it's in the Forester.
The rumours are that the 2.5 will be in the Impreza next model year, before the new shape comes out the year after that.

It's the same with any area where technical progress is being made rapidly. If you need something now, just buy it. If you can wait then do - but be assured that whenever you actually do buy, there will always be something along that's even better if you'd just waited a bit longer.
If you want to wait & see then go ahead - but T25 owners will be enjoying their cars right now.

I'm still waiting off the back of the P1 for the P2 to arrive and that was a strong rumour.
I fully expect something like a 377bhp as then all the new purchases of WR1's and 2005 spec cars get stiffed again on residuals
Then the ones who buy the 377bhp one get stiffed as the new shape scoob comes out lol!
Progress who needs it!
Ditto the comment above regarding weight. If they could get the weight back down it would become a superb car! At the moment manufacturers seem to be upping the cars power and when you work out the bhp/tonne it is no better due to being heavier!

I don't see the need to compete with the FQ-400. It's expensive, it's a limited run, and the reviews I've read suggest that it's got a peaky power delivery that makes it difficult (or at least, uncomfortable) to drive. It may be a Top Trumps winner and good pub talk, but is it going to cost Subaru many sales? I doubt it.
That said, I wouldn't be complaining about a 2.5l 350bhp+ STI - provided that in the quest to chase headline power figures and compete on paper with the FQ-400, it doesn't lose out on reliability and flexibility.

My cheque book is awaiting....... EVO 8 MR340 currently cancelled.
However, seems like everyone has been wanting a 2.5 from at least 1997 Why has it taken so long (If it does happen) and will it have a rear wiper and foldable mirrors? or will we need to wait another 10 years before they are added
Well IM if you are out there, i am holding on to MY99 until you do up the stakes , however, i will be looking at the EVO 9 MR340 to see if the interior has got better and if it is, before you are ready, you know where my cash will be going............

Agreed, Many peeps who have Tested/review the FQ400 said, bar on a Track the FQ340 is the quicker car in the real world.
