Audi S4 v Scooby Turbo
#1
I've not driven an S4 but I had a 0 to 80 ish trial with one (he kept accelerating but I value my license too much).
I agree with Martin, the Scoob matches the S4 to about 60 and then the S4 starts to pull away. However this run was on a curve (motorway slip road) and I could clearly see that the S4 was struggling to keep his line whereas the Scoob was on rails.
I like the looks of the A4 series but I don't like the price....

is the Audi mor a wolf in a sheep skin coat than the Scooby, should we worry about the German rocket?
does it handle as well on bends?
But the Quattro was, still is? (mayB)?, the Farther of the 4wd 'Race' Car, that Subaru has to look upto and follow and then beat!
(i think they have)
Can Audi ever be the same again as they were in rallies in the early 80's?
on paper its very good,
Evo rated it quite well in Jan 1999 car test of the year.
4 over £15k more money it should be good though!
can we tak one on?
(on the track) u no wot i mean!

Having thought about changing my scoob for something different recently, I tried an S4.
Nice smooth engine, good brakes, good interior (apart from the crap front seats) but it didn't handle at all. It felt like a really big heavy car and didn't feel half as quick as the scoob.
You should try one though, you might like it.
Anil.
P.S. I tried a TT and I thought that was a better car than the S4.

One of the boys in the office has an S4 Avant. He also has a RS4 on order for next year. THe S4 is quick, 2.6L V6 twin turbo 265BHP etc etc. I think my scooby would do it to 60-70MPH but after that, the torque of the Audi would almost certainly pull it away from me.
I'd have good fun trying though if the old git would ever give it a go!!

Drove a friend's S4 last year, different kind of motor to the scooby altogether. Much more solid, loads of grip, very strong and even power delivery form low revs but totally lacking in feel. Brakes bite but have no feel, steering too light and rolls too much through corners.
Might fancy one for eveyday use if I had a P1, EVO6 or a Caterham for when i wanted to enjoy driving.

Phil,
Remember when we went to that RS meet in Leicester? Well, I went over the route again several weeks back with Sam (my Sam that is, not yours).
On the way back (A606) I came across an RS4 who didn't want to let me pass (why? when he was just cruising till I arrived) - yep it was quick, but couldn't out run Scoob. The driver didn't seem that confident in his car through the bends, so I showed him the respect he deserved and passed him comfortably!
As much as I am not over keen on the shape of a 5 door Scoob, I'd still choose it over the Audi!
Enjoy yer holiday, see ya in two weeks,
Kev

I'd stick with your Scoob guys the Audi's are just not as much fun. I have a RS2 outside and it has barely half the steering feel you get from a Subaru. However the accelerator does make me smile :-) and the interior is better. The Audi's are definitely designed with a different aim, more Autobahn cruisers than rally stage weapons, 'horses for courses' and all that.

... and having driven it, if I spent most of my miles on the motorway/A-roads, I would rather have the RS2. No Scooby has grunt like that, or lag
