WRX RA
what the spec on these? pros and cons? am looking at buying a MY95 one
just been reading that they are the model once used by the rally teams to build a group A / N rally car... the choice for serious tuners... closed deck block and 5th injector... and weighs just 1100kg!

windy windows though

My cousins got one, and i'm planning to get one (or an STI RA) for my next car when the P1 is sold.
Quicker steering rack, very low gearing (125mph ish at redline) so does 0-60 in just over 4 secs, big laggy turbo (), ally bonnet and boot, thinner roof (i think), no soundproofing, no carpets in boot, no e/w, c/l or aircon, no foglights (just the holes!), no boot spoiler on the early models. Doesn't have DCCD or roof vent though, they weren't fitted until the STI RA i believe.
Awesome fun and very affordable.

The early ones do NOT have the following as standard:
Quick steering rack
Plated rear diff
Forged pistons
Aluminium boot
Electric windows
Central locking
ABS
They DO have the following:
Aircon
Sound proofing
Boot lining
Waterspray
Td05 turbo (like a standard early 4 door)
Aluminium front wishbones (like any 4door WRX)
Stupid gear ratios
3.9 diffs
Steel bootlid
They do not weight 1100kg either, they are more like 1190, where a standard WRX of the same vintage is about 1235kg. Although there is aircon to come off that if removed.

Whats your plan then?
When i've sold my P1 my next project plan is for a 93/94 RA (maybe stripped out) and with uprated suspension (fast road/forest), big brakes, group N exhaust, Motec/GEMS ECU with switchable anti-lag etc. But looking standard-ish from outside, no rear wing to give it away, decent ground clearance (i.e. no low splitters/skirts) and with full length under body protection (skid plate).
Thats what i've got in my head anyway...

Well i don't really either, i'm more worried about speed humps all over Swindon and other places i go. There's a couple of areas which are no-go for the P1 as the splitter is too low.
It'll be handy for going to the rally too, with those bumpy gravel roads.

That's plan B for me, an STI RA based Colin McRae replica.
My sensible head says i don't need toys, besides if i go for a cheaper RA i can afford to upgrade the exhaust/ecu/suspension all in one go.

Already ahead of you lads
Looks bog standard from the outside
Spec is
6 point Roll-cage
Stripped out interior
Bucket seats and harnesses
Had GEMS fitted, mapped and Antilag setup but sold it for the PowerFC
Aircon and condensor removed
Stereo and ashtray, cigar lighter all removed
Central locking removed
Side exit zorst which was fitted to save the weight of the backbox
In total i managed to remove about 100 odd kilos over the standard car which is noticable in the accelaration dept but the downside is the road noise

The RA has a closed deck block so is apparently pretty strong. I asked Bob about my plan yesterday and he reckoned it sounded feasible, he did say and STI2 engine would be better than a WRX RA engine though he didn't elaborate as to why. Better pistons/conrods maybe?

yep, as far as i know RA engines were intended to be stripped and race prepped so are fairly standard inside
