Default The use of 'Tracker' units....

This subject has no dought been well discused so appologies to the 'old school' amongst you!

Not the best subjects but one I am thinking about as I am soon to have a scooby again & the subject of insurance came up... just doubled my insurance from a GTi lol with Tesco.

The use of a tracker is required, I have been given a quote of £300 to fit the 'Response' pack. It got me thinking about its actual use other than to get me cover.. so a couple of questions for you lot!

1) Have you got a tracker fitted?

2) Which model, how much fitted & who did it?

3) Has your car been stolen? Was it recovered?

4) If it was recovered was it with assistance of the tracker unit?

5) How quickly did the police respond once you realised the car was stolen?

7) Is a Tracker, CAT1 & steering wheel gonna stop the *******s?!!?

8) ..... Is 'curtain twitching' healthy... ?

Cheers

1) Yes
2) MY04 STI - Standard fit
3) No
4) NA
5) NA
7) Not really if they want it. a) they is not that many places to install it and installers are lazy b) it requires a GSM signal to work which is easy to block.
8) depends on your viewpoint

When I bought the car there was a mixup. Subaru told me it had no tracker but they were having problems with the alarm. So I organised the RAC to fit the trackstar once Subaru had fixed the alarm. Picked the car up a few days later by which time the engineer had found that, yes it did have a tracker.

I had already paid for the RAC so what the hell, I have two.

Limited edition....just one of those lovely bugeyes in mica red that everyone drools over.

Would you really like your car back after its been thrashed to hell and back, kerbed, the internals ripped out as they tried to start it?
I'd sooner not see it again, and wait for my cheque, and buy again. Imho trackers are for the insurance companies benefit not the owners. Get a quote from another company that doesn't insist on a tracker.

Ditto....my insurance is pretty good anyway, so it would be a false economy for about three years to fit one in the first place.
And should it get nicked, yes i'd be gutted, but i do not want it back, who knows what damage would have been done...thrashed from cold, smashed to bits etc...no thanks

Exactly. Save £300 and use it towards your premium. What car thief drives it in any way you would like it to be driven?

1) Have you got a tracker fitted?
Yes

2) Which model, how much fitted & who did it?
MY04 STi UK Standard RAC Trackstar

3) Has your car been stolen? Was it recovered?
Nope

4) If it was recovered was it with assistance of the tracker unit?
Have chased a few with Trackstar and caught them. Whether that's down to my driving or Trackstar is another matter

5) How quickly did the police respond once you realised the car was stolen?
Trackstar are a waste of space & money IMHO and the sooner IM realise this the better

7) Is a Tracker, CAT1 & steering wheel gonna stop the *******s?!!?
[oldbillmode]Nope! Nothing will stop a determined/experienced car thief[/oldbillmode]

8) ..... Is 'curtain twitching' healthy... ?
