best oil for brisk road use in UK 03 STi PPP
Suggestions please.
Yet to take delivery, however noticed in showroom - stone cold, oil was at bottom of stick - salesperson assured me that was correct and would be higher with engine running, as it should be tested. - Is this correct - no low oil warning light, car like new with 17k mls.

The oil level needs to be more like halfway between E and F on the stick, don't overfill it though or it'll foul the boost solenoid and you won't get as much boost.
Since it's done over 10,000 miles it'll be run in by now and you should be fine with a fully synthetic like Motul 300v Competition 15w50. Don't use a really thin oil like Mobil 1 0w50 though, too thin for scoobys.

Please be aware subaru do not receomned the use of any 15w oils or 0w oils only 5w or 10w. using non approved grades of oil could invalidate your engine warranty if you had any problems.
If you are buying a used car from a dealer ask them to change the oil and fill it correctly before you pick it up as part of the deal, no point in spending a wedge of cash on a approved used car then having to splash out on some oil straight away.
i would use a good 5w-40 fully sythetic oil, i use 5w -50 mobil 1 but you cant buy that in england.

What is the recall fault associated with oil fires?

5w-40, 10w-40 or 10w-50 would be the most suitable depending on use and modifications. Stock car, use 5w-40.
