best oil for brisk road use in UK 03 STi PPP

Suggestions please.

Yet to take delivery, however noticed in showroom - stone cold, oil was at bottom of stick - salesperson assured me that was correct and would be higher with engine running, as it should be tested. - Is this correct - no low oil warning light, car like new with 17k mls.

The oil level needs to be more like halfway between E and F on the stick, don't overfill it though or it'll foul the boost solenoid and you won't get as much boost.

Since it's done over 10,000 miles it'll be run in by now and you should be fine with a fully synthetic like Motul 300v Competition 15w50. Don't use a really thin oil like Mobil 1 0w50 though, too thin for scoobys.

I personally use Mobil 1 15w50. As Iwan says dont use the 0w40 though.

ALi-B 31 October 2004 10:19 AM

Mobil 1 don't make a 0w-50 oil

Ok whatever, don't use the Mobil 1 oil that starts 0w.

:)

Apologies for the small mistake. It's obvious I meant 0w-40 :Whatever_ :Whatever_

Use 5w-40, 10w-40 or 10w-50 true synthetic oil.

Please be aware subaru do not receomned the use of any 15w oils or 0w oils only 5w or 10w. using non approved grades of oil could invalidate your engine warranty if you had any problems.

If you are buying a used car from a dealer ask them to change the oil and fill it correctly before you pick it up as part of the deal, no point in spending a wedge of cash on a approved used car then having to splash out on some oil straight away.

i would use a good 5w-40 fully sythetic oil, i use 5w -50 mobil 1 but you cant buy that in england.

with a name like yours, I guess I should be asking which brands are best and compatable with std STi fare supplied by dealers - I will be topping up.

Incidentally chaps - how easy is it to get at drain plug on 03 STi - might do a mid term semi oil drain - serviced 5 mths ago and again in 3k.

What is the recall fault associated with oil fires?

got the car at a great price and dealer knocked further £220 off in lieu of oil service as not due for 3k miles - me being pedantic and trying to keep her fresh|!

Depends what you want but would recommend Motul 300V or Silkolene PRO S.

You can see the tech data here: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/lubricants.htm

5w-40, 10w-40 or 10w-50 would be the most suitable depending on use and modifications. Stock car, use 5w-40.

Cheers
Simon

PS. what oil fires?
