If you had to stop or slow down at all its going to mess your mpg up. The town driving is probably where it went down.

When my 2004 WRX was brand new got about 24mpg. Recent trip to Donington (no motorway only A roads) with about 4000 on the clock (so engine still a bit tight I think) saw 29mpg which I was amazed at because I wasn't driving particularly for economy (who does with a scoob!) using 2nd and 3rd gear quite hard to get up to legal limits. Double checked figures and sure enough it seemed right.

Never got much more than 30mpg in my old normally aspirated primera egt (150bhp) although it does seem that in standard tune the WRX engine seems to run just off boost if you keep to 60mph in 5th gear. I guess go over 60mph with a tight engine when it would be using a bit of boost and it would hit economy.

My normal average (which again is mostly A roads) is about 24 to 25mpg

I get more mpg now as well, must be that the new engine is not bedded in and losened up yet, or something?

MPG will imrove as the engine loosens up.....not much though: you play, you pay, I'm afraid. Worth it though!

I also find driving style makes no difference (on an MY02) - about 25mph not matter whether it's motorway cruising or hooning. What I do find interesting is that the PPP adds 50 or so bhp without effecting economy. So what's happening to the fuel at the moement? The engine clearly isn't running at its most efficient.

My WRX 03 PPP can achieve 33+ MPG, a mix of sitting at 70 on the motorway, and stuck in traffic, and with the car fully loaded with passenger and junk in boot + back seats.

with my 00 turbo,..no matter what i did, always struggled to get into +20 mpg...track day record for me.....4 MPG!!!! awesome performace per pound though...

Its about time Subaru did an Impreza turbo-diesel!!

250bhp wouldnt be an unrealistic figure, and the torque would be huge! Extra weight up front might not do wonders for the handling, but they could always more the battery into the boot I suppose.
