2.5 BHP/torque Question?
Could the experts please comment on the following spec list and tell me what BHP/TORQUE to expect, it wont be on a rolling road for a while and I know everyone will ask the usual question when its on the road, so I thought I would get some opinions, here goes
2.5 STI SHORT BLOCK
UPRATED GASKETS
MD309 TURBO (SLIGHTLY MODIFIED BY TURBO DYNAMICS)
UPRATED FAST ROAD CAMS (KENT CAMS)
STANDARD HEADS FROM 95 WRX
550 INJECTORS
UPRATED WALBORO FUEL PUMP
UPRATED FUEL FILTER
PARALLEL FUEL FEED
FSE FUEL REGULATOR
NGK 7 SPARK PLUGS
BLITZ AIR FILTER-INTO FRONT WING
UPRATED OIL PUMP
PACE FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER
PACE RADIATOR
HKS SSQ BLOW OFF VALVE
LATERAL PERFORMANCE PADDLE CLUTCH ( CAPABLE 500 BHP+)
LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL
OBX EQUAL LENGTH HEADERS (HEAT WRAPPED)
HKS EXHAUST-NO CATS-(HEAT WRAPPED)
SAMCO HOSING
HELIX OIL CATCH TANK
GEMS ECU WITH ANTI -LAG, MAPPED BY STEVE SIMPSON.
I think thats it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
I'm hoping for around the 400bhp/400lbs mark?
Cheers everyone
Kev.

Cheers John,
I will have it mapped on Shell Opimax, also with this turbo on my 2.0, I had trouble getting it to spool up under 4000rpm, with a gems ecu, but when it did I had 1.3 bar of boost upto 7000 rpm, and it wasn't stopping until I changed gear, the boost was restricted due to standard gaskets!!!!!
I have had the exhaust side of the turbo cut back 10 degrees to allow better flow, and I have been told this turbo should produce 400 bhp + now??????
I will just have to source a modified five speed gearbox now, before this one dies

I lost track of what an MD309 is, IIRC a P18 exhaust housing & Garrett core, probably quite similar in performance to a 20G? I found cutbacks on the 20G made no difference to power, but the Garrett wheels seem a lot deeper so it may behave differently. Garrett themselves state that cutbacks are a bad thing though - see the last page in the catalogue http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob.../jsp/index.jsp
If anything you'll have more likelihood of popping gaskets on the 2.5 than the 2.0, uprated gaskets or not, it is still experimental as a high performance engine.
It would be nice to see you get about 400 BHP at about 1.2 bar at the top on the 2.5. 400 lbft will probably need a midrange boost of about 1.4 bar. At this I think the engine should hold together, and it will be very driveable indeed on the road. Completely different animal to a 2.0 for flexibility. All very approximate figures of course

Steve Simpson has just done a map on a P1 with version 5 heads and a SR50 turbo i saw the dyno graph and it was not to shabby 401bhp and 428lbs torque. So i guess yours will be a bit of a gearbox killer.
