Thumbs up

Yep, my classic, 4-up, tows a 15foot caravan like a dream. Leaves diesels uphill while towing!

And the van is usually fully laden!

I tow the track car with the MY03 wagon regularly and its fine. Just make sure your trailer isn't made of pig iron though, as you'll be on your upper weight limit. With a lightweight trailer- I have a Brian James clubman- you'll be fine with a 205 on it.

In theory a braked trailer should support its own weight- its stopping the trailer that's usually the problem, and having the weight in the tow vehicle to keep it planted if the trailer starts swaying.

At a guess the photo above is a fair way above the max towing weight of approx 1200kg- I bet the car weighs nearly that alone, and the trailer about 600!

I used my MY2000 turbo to trail a formula ford around the UK and europe for a few seasons racing. Best tow car I ve had, loads of torque etc. The cars now gone but I have a towbar for a Classic if you want to buy it. Its the witter type that I think fits both a saloon & estate

Question

How much are you looking for for the towbar? - I have a 1999 classic wagon and am thinking one day I may need to tow with it.

Where in the country are you?

I used to tow with a legacy turbo a few years ago, thought it was pants because previously to that was a Sierra 4x4 Ghia estate with the 2.8 V6 engine. That had fabulous low end torque for pulling things about

Used my MY96 Wagon for towing.. got two trailers.. had a ton of sand in one with no problems and the other (Camping trailer) is about 500kgs (with no brakes) and no problems, done about 6000miles with it on the back.

Max tow on a braked trailer I believe is 1800kgs.. I have towed a Vauxhall Corsa on a large car trailer with no problems (300miles).

Although I've towed some pretty heavy stuff with my MY03 wagon, I'd be very surprised if the recommended towing weight, braked or not, is about 30% more than the curb weight of the towing vehicle.

However, I am prepared to be corrected on that one

It should be no problem. My mate was towing this (Peugeot 309) rally car with his scoob last year. Great tow car, bags of torque and pretty stable usually (though one instance of severe snaking means you should never take it for granted). Strictly speaking the tow weight may be too high, but so long as you are sensible and load the scoob with tools/wheels etc and not the race car, it should be OK.

no surprized he had trouble with snaking.. you should load the trailer with the car engine first!!! in the picture the engine is at the rear of the trailer meaning there is more weight at the rear of the trailer.. trailers need to be nose heavy...

Oh the only BIG downpoint towing with a Scoob is the MPG as just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.. think again.. lol
