Default Subaru Impreza Re-call

Had a recall notice delivered today from Subaru Japan.
Although my japanese is not too good I can work out that the recall relates to some bugeye and all blobeye Impreza Turbos. Strangely the notice does not give dates of manufacture for the cars affected.
My car is a 2003 STi and it names this model specifically, but also other models are mentioned and also some Foresters.
The problem is apparently a fault with an oil control valve which will potentially cause a fire :-(
Has this recall happened in the UK?
If not, does it only apply to JDM scoobs??
It's booked in this afternoon, job will take 30 mins I am told.
Anyone else had a recall notice ???

Exclamation Heads up! SG Foresters too.

Announced Sept 15.

http://www.fhi.co.jp/recall/data/04-09_15_2.html

Cars:
GDA-002031 ~ GDA-012744 Build dates: July 13 2000 ~ Jan 22 2003
GDB-002015 ~ GDB-019152 Build dates: Sept 12 2000 ~ Feb 21 2003
GGA-002022 ~ GGA-009518 Build dates: June 28 2000 ~ Jan 21 2003
GGB-002008 ~ GGB-003351 Build dates: Sept 12 2000 ~ Sept 25 2002
SG5-002008 ~ SG5-035644 Build dates: Jan 25 2002 ~ Feb 6 2003

Sounds like the bolts were not torqued sufficiently.

9 reported incidents, 5 fires Problem comes about under high load/high RPM.

The pic above should give y'all a good indication of where to look to see if your car is suffering this issue.

It applies to SG Foresters, too, so esp. if you have a grey import, you may wanna go have a quick squiz.

I think those chassis codes all relate to JDM cars.

My cars code is GDB 002829.

Does that mean mine is affected?

Default This is for AVCS and manual transmission equipped cars.

Therefore is only applies to cars with AVCS and manual gear boxes. It is not clear if it effects UK cars at this time (unless someone has better info). Can't hurt to have a look see can it?

Sorry m8, the numbers don't look good for you But it doesn't mean your car is about to fireball just because you've read about the recall...

The issue is with the bolts indicated in the diagram, so go take a squiz at your car. If there is a major leak, you'd likely have noticed if you take note of such things. Or perhaps print it out and take it to your specalist/dealer for a proper once over.

Sorry for sounding stupid what's AVCS?

Mine's a UK 02 Bug eye with a GDA chasis number, does this mean things don't look good for mine and I should get it checked out?

Just spoke to my dealer and I have been informed that my02 uk bug eye is fine.

He also went on to say that he was not aware of a recall with this fault.....

Just to repeat - this is for JDM cars at the moment. Everyone needs to relax

If the issue is present on UK cars, it is likely to only be on the STi because it is the only one with the AVCS system.

Cheers

Recall letters are being sent out to Swiss STi owners...nothing from Subaru France yet but then you never hear anything from them once you've bought the car.

Please ask Dealer to confirm that this fault exists on UK cars, if so chassis no. range so trhat it can be published here.

Any other recalls faults known on UK 03 / 04 wrx STi?

Sorry, couldn't get the info from the dealer as it was the Mrs that had the car there. He did say that he had about ten to do. Seems to be the early '03 cars that have been affected so far.
