Silly question time !

Question Silly question time !

if a mot centre brake tests a MY00 UK turbo on 2wd rollers, would it cause stress on the gear box ?

There was a post about. When the owner went back early to the garge his Impreza was on the rollers and the front wheels were stoped and the rears were spinning. and he said has it done any damage to the centre/rear diffs??

Not sure on the results...but do a search on this.

A 4x4 should not go on the brake rollers.

They must test on the road.

Having the front wheels stopped and the rear spinning (or vice versa) WILL cause massive stress for the center viscos diff. It's why you can't tow these cars with just one axle elevated.

It would be ok only if the car has DCCD and the controller is set in the open position.

Is that true? 'Open' doesn't mean 100% RWD, it still means 65% rear/35% front (on a new age car at least).

With the DCCD set to open it has no limited slip effect, so if say the rear wheels lose traction, all the torque goes to them (100%). Mmm oversteer! When both axles have traction the split is indeed 65/35.
The controller alters the limited slip effect.

That was me

The general concencus of my thread was that although technically the car shouldn't have gone on the 2wd rollers, the slow speeds involved would mean any damage would be very unlikely.

Since my MOT a few months back I have had no problems / whines / nasty noises from the gearbox / center diff at all, so I wouldn't be worried about it if it's been done to your car, although I won't be rushing back to the same MOT centre next year
