I didnt do any timing not sure if any of the others did, but i did seven sessions on the track and only my mates Orange evo 450 bhp passed me was on full slicks to start with but the n/s front kept getting ripped to bits due to the famed understeer my harsh driving style and high rumble strips ! ended up doing 3 sessions on my toyo`s and doing the same to n/s front but still had great day cheers Rob

Thumbs up

Hi Guys,

was there too in the other black STi (which is what I guess Rob was driving), along with my mate in his Blue STi (both new age).

You might have noticed me, as you passed me on the first open pit session - I was driving like a lemon learner - and guess what? Yup, this was my first ever track day, so apologies for being a slow mover.

However, things did get better. I got to learn the course, braking points and more fun how to keep on the power all the way round the bends. These bloody scoobs are just amazing. It was also great to watch the other scoobs, including Rob's tussle with the WR1, to see how hard they can be pushed - the soundtrack of the Scoobs was also spot on.

At least by the last open session ( I also got seven runs in) I was pasing more than being passed - and certainly learned to spot the fast movers in my rear view - easier to do once the handling and course becomes more second nature.

High points for me:

1) last run being able to run flat out for the whole session, feeling much more confident and getting to pass far more than being passed.
2) paying just £85 plus say £40 petrol for a day that is still buzzing in my head
3) following a Mk 1 escort in the morning sessions, who was pretty quick but seeing how much his rear end was unsetlled, even braking in a straight line. He finally lost it to understeer on the hairpin went of and I had an easy breeze past, thumbs up. All credit to the guy he had some guts and was working his car to the very limit - plus he had a passenger!
4) running in the open session with the lambo, passing me on the straight and then right on his tail through all the twisties, to see such a car its rear end squirming right in front of you (whilst the scoob is fully poised) was a revelation.
5) charging down the main straight gaining on said BMW 535, for him to be black flagged in front of me (you are never too sure at first who is being flagged). I then slipped past, and happened to look in rear view mirror to see a swirling dust storm behind me as he spun yet again on a right hander.

Finally, having driven the whole day on a fully standard set of tyres (with the car pretty brand new) I now feel I have a pretty good idea on how it behaves. To anybody reading this that might be thinking is it worthwhile - the answer is 110% yes - the best investment you will make in learning about the car. Try to find a friend to go with, or arrange to meet up with a Scoobynet member - its pretty intense on the track but very friendly in the pits and paddock.

They had a great day for it.

Was really surprised by how many Scoobs I saw there. One or two put in very strong showings. Well done peeps!

Just the small matter of sorting through the 7-800 pix I took now!

Well you should have filled in a 'kin form then shouldn't you!

Send me your address by PM or email (josh@apexphoto.co.uk) and I'll mail you proofs and an order form when I do the others. Gonna take me a day or two though, as I've only sorted out 200ish so far.

Lol you aren't kidding about those tyres Rob shows I trust your driving to have gone out with you on that last session you used the slicks on

I told you I had timed you at 1m 42.3s and Bob's Evo at 1.44.5s.

Maybe they do, but they are racing, this was a track day and you are bound to get held up by much slower cars. So your times are rather irrelvant - aren't they

Think there was 25 cars on track at same time so in my opinion it was good for overtaking but not for times and no overtaking in the corners/braking areas needed to be respected, and lots of the slower cars dont know your ther till your trying to push them to the right as only overtaking on the left allowed ! which was a nightmare to try and stick too ! but great fun all the same and a bargain at £85 for the day at a nice curcuit, well organised and met some nice likeminded people, cheers Rob..

Yeah it was agood few laps struggled alot with understeer as you could probably tell and then i had to come off as was low on fuel and the famous fuel surge started so didnt want to risk anymore laps, was a bit peed off as would of been good to follow you for a few laps !

Daz34 dont know about times but on clear laps with my slicks on at oulton pk ive alwats managed to get past clio cups
cheers Rob
