Do SVA tests and model reports etc only apply to Japanes cars being just imported to the UK or does it apply to cars being imported to any european country?

For a model report, to any car manufactured after Decenber 31st 1996 that does not have European Type Approval and is less than ten years old. A car manufactured before 32/12/96 and less than ten years old will be required to pass an SVA test only. It doesnt matter where (outside the EEC) the car came from.

Different member states have different interpretations of the law of course; if you can register a car in the Republic of Ireland or Holland it can be then registered here quite easily.

I thought SVA was a UK thing? I'm pretty sure there are European countries in which it's simply not possible to register, say, a Japanese car at all unless it has type approval.
