Question Buying this weekend

Hello all.

I'm looking to buy a Suabru this weekend, its been long enough without, Insruance is down, points are off, I'm ready

But I want to get it sorted this weekend. I have a car now that the MOT runs out in two weeks and I aint having it done as it wont pass. So I need to get this sorted ASAP.

I'm not rushing, i've been looking at Subaru since day one.

What I was hoping is if ANYONE can give me any help on the best places to go and look. I am looking for a garage or trade as I would require Finance. So my options are limted there. And I'm not too specifc on models as long as its a Turbo.

I live up north 20 mins from sheffield, so im happy to look round sheffield/wakefield and round this area. I've seen a few traders on autotrader.co.uk but not everyones listed.

If any one can help let me know.

Thanks for reading, I hope i'm going to be doing some more posting on here rather than just reading. Thanks again.

Paul.

Welcome aboard.

Forget finance.Get a bank loan instead, its usually cheaper.

A few cars selling on here if you look at some of the threads.

Good luck.Let us know what you get.

Paul, Is a bankload an option? The best deals are generally to be had by buying privately. Example: A local dealer wanted £11995 for an-admitedly very handsome- MY99 turbo 2000 with 50,000 on the clock. Every used car guide has that car for less than 8K.

If you do have to go to a dealer, my advice is to haggle very hard!! Dealers generally have good examples, but you pay heavily for the security and convenience.

Find a well loved private one, get it professionally inspected and you'll be laughing!

Good luck mate.

Wow, thanks for the speedy replies.

A bank loan isn't out of the question no, a loan is a loan to me, it just would have been easier to settle with the owners so to speak.

The only thing I have an hang up with private is warrenty. Like a few people say, they are a fast performance car and some people drive them like that.

The car I want is has advantages and disadvantages. I dont like the 2001+ models. I love the 95-2000 models think there is some 2001 before the lamps go all round and look like a ford/hyundi.

So from that, I am saving money by not wanting a newer model, but then again, I want to buy a older model that will probably need something doing on it eventually.

I would be more than happy to get a loan sorted but they take too much time. I will check a few sites online and see what there turn round is.

And also look in the forums here. But I would still like to look round this weekend if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks

Paul.

Your bank will do you one same day normally, but often not a great rate.

As said, you cant give a scoob away at the mo, so get a good price. You dont need to be worried about a warranty really, as long as you know a bit about the car and it has a full history etc.

Dealers take the **** on prices, id never buy one from them. Have a look on the "for sale" here, there are some good / well looked after ones and you can see the posters history for a character assesment

Just for info, about buying from dealer.Had an rb5 for sale a while back.Couldnt sell it ,dropped the price from 14k to 12.k,still no sale.Mint car as well.Put it in dealers (sale or return),who put it up for 14k and they sold it within a couple of weeks.Someone paid extra couple of grand just for peace of mind and dealer warranty. They still got a cracking car,but could have saved a good few quid.

Everything has a risk, but if you check out the car properly, you can still get a good one privately.

Buy this car,
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=355818
And you could almost afford to insure it tpf&t, that'd save a bob or two, plus it's real cheap to start with at 3k!!!!

Get an AA loan, and they will throw in a free inspection with it.

Rates are good too.

Take ur time, as there as some excellent motors on here, have u sorted ur insurance yet ????
Becareful as some hate modded cars, im with Liverpool Victoria who are not bothered about mods as long as u have receipts or photo's, upgrade the bhp and they won't to know about it.

Good luck and happy hunting, and welcome to the mad house

Direct cars at Halfway are advertising a MY99 with 31K on the clock for £9.5k in silver. May be worth a look but as stated above haggle.

Sounds about right. AC and sunroof is unusual, is it a Euro import? No probs if it is either way. Ask if its ever had a new MAF and lambda sensor If not it will no doubt need both with those miles and will cost about £200.

Thanks Dark Blue Mark.

Its a UK car, he showed me the receipt for a £1500 AC unit fitting, so all good It is strange to have both.

No idea on the sensors and stuff yet, papers coming through tuesday so will check through them.

New MAF and Lambda sensor on a 50k car that's never been modified? Why?

Andy, surely worth a check. Its well known that 02 and MAF sensors have quite short life span, even on a standard car. My old MY99 needed both at 38k and it was pretty much standard. I choose to replace them as a matter of course (when I had no AFR fitted) The 02 pays for itself in terms of fuel economy.

If nothing else its worth mentioning as a bargaining chip

Not with the free inspection if you get a loan with them, but you can pay extra for it - thats what I did when I bought mine.

They sold this last Wednesday. The day before I looked for it a second time

However, I just got a R reg 2000 Turbo from Monty's in Sheffield. 47k on clock. Paid a bit too much for it but it;'s got Aircon and he's puttng in a cat 1 alarm and changing cambelt. Plus service and 6 months tax etc.

For a loan try Northern Rock (5.8% fixed) or Cahoot (5.8% variable)

9k over 4 years = £210 per month.

Privilage and Norwich union seems best for insurance so far for me. Between 800 and 900.

Hpi is included in advanced check, additional extra on the basic one I think. If you're not buying from a dealer, it's essential though!

Go for the advanced one, it's peace of mind and if the car turns out to be a dud, you've got cover included in the inspection (up to £10,000 I think).

I really can't emphasise the importance of having a performance car checked out enough. You might even be able to find a Subaru mechanic who'll do it for you for a reasonable hourly rate and a pint if you think the AAs fee is too high! You can't buy these things with just your heart, hard as it is, you've got to be cautious!

I got mine inspected by the AA and was very happy with the service. Subseqent check at specialist service confirmed all their findings.

Good luck mate! Let us know how you get on.
