Default Why does the Scoob seem to attract this?

Most of the time I drive an ITR and experience very few problems on the road, but every now and then I use our STI that my wife drives most of the time and after this morning I have finally decided that other drivers have a totally different attitude to this car which is something she's said for ages.

I thought it was coincidence, but people seem to be far more aggressive towards the Scoob. Just the other day I had a Corsa driver inform me via a hand gesture that he thought I was a self abuser. Given that I was parked up at the time I very much doubt I did anything to antagonise him, but who knows.

This morning I am overtaking a shuttle bus on a motorway spur when he decides he wants into my lane. Bearing in mind that the weather was pretty wet I thought he hadn't seen me so sounded my horn, but he kept coming. I accelerated past him and he misses the back of the Scoob by a couple of feet. He then drives right on the back of the car with his main beam lights on even followsing me when I pull back in.

At first I thought maybe he needed into my lane due to traffic, but as there was nothing in front of him I can only assume he was being a ****. This fact was confirmed by the fact that he was gesticulating wildly at me after I had had the audacity to overtake him. Remember too that he does all this with a bus load of passengers.

I am ashamed to say I returned his hand gestures which is not big and clever, but red mist and all that.

Why does the Scoob do this to some people?

tiggers.

Maybe it's me then.

I know I can be a little hot headed on occasions, but this morning I was really taking very easy as the weather was so bad - don't understand what the guy's problem was at all.

Lots of **** out there.. personally I have not had any trouble in the scoob so far, but mine is pretty discrete looking, used to get an unbelievable amount of abuse driving a 911 then a big fat beemer (servs me right I guess!), would take twice as long to get out of every junction than any 'normal' motor!!

Don't get wound up about it. I've been given the V sign (not peace ) by a group of lads in a diesel 206 who were travelling in the opposite direction. There was no way that I could have annoyed him, so I guess he was just showing off to his mates. I've had several thumbs up from passing cars too, mostly ned types, but at least they're friendly neds. The occasional "Nice car Mister" at the traffic lights makes up for the tossers.

I think other drivers expect the scoob to be driven by a smartarse who is going to **** them off.

I think this is more likely than the other reasons cited.

Jealousy, though, I would have thought is more likely to be directed at a Scoob then a Ferrari or Lambo. Seems odd, but you're in something they possibly can't have, but many people have got. If they want one they are more likely to be jealous of not being able to do what many people can do, rather than being seriously (ie V signs etc) jealous of something Lottery winners buy. Hope you all follow this logic

Never had a problem.

If anything I get more hassle when I drive the wifes Escort GTI. Especially people pulling out in front of me from junctions making me reduce my speed significantly when they gently accelerate upto what I was doing. (Qu. Or am I the only person that dont pull out if I cant accellerate out before they have to brake?)

I have been told my Silver classic does look very agressive from the front with the morettes and front spoiler. So these may put people off.

Is your car a new-age by any chance? They actually look quite 'tame' compared to Classics and things like EVO6's.

Wasn't it a political reference when someone said "if they are gunning for you, you must be doing something right" very apt I feel.

I've found that people tend to move over for me on dual carriageways more than I am used to. I did wonder if it were the fron of the classic looking a bit 'aggresive'.
I am by no means right up peoples **** when this happens either.

I tend to find the opposite. People seem to have some respect in the Norfolk area for a scoob. I always get let out of junctions, etc. etc.

I notice the difference when in any other non-performance car.

Tiggers,

I've experienced this. My old car was a Golf GTi and people always wanted a race, with the scoob it seems people always want to kill you. I could understand if I was driving like a ***** and deserved the attitude and aggravation off people, but this occurs even when I obey every law in the highway code (even going round mini-roundabouts and not over them).

The other day Scoobess (my other half) even had some old minger of a woman get out of her Honda at traffic lights and start screeching at her like a howling banshee, trying to get into the scooby!! She cut Scoobess up twice, changed lanes without indicating and nearly caused a crash but seemed to believe she had done absolutely nothing wrong and the innocent party deserved to be screeched at. I can laugh about this now because by some miracle Scoobess was in a very calm mood, locked the doors and didn't even look at her. Had it been any other morning the minging-Honda-***** would have been splatted all over the road so I consider it a nasty occurrence but a positive result nonetheless.

It's bizarre, the number of people who drive around dishing out insults for no reason is either increasing or I just notice it more because I'm in an impreza. I normally ignore them but it's getting increasingly hard to do. I'm naturally a calm person, I haven't had a fight since I gave up kick-boxing and rugby (!) but I'm starting to feel that sooner or later I'm going to end up getting out of the car and properly launching somebody, making me just as abhorrent as them.

I think Scoobess tends to get more aggro than me, some men really do have a (small *****) problem with a woman driving a high performance car, especially if being overtaken on a dual carriageway or motorway.

I find it's usually a 2.5 Vectra driver 4cm from the back bumper... usually when your still in a 30 zone. What's the point? I think I'm used to it now and try my best to ignore them, but I NEVER had this happen with the old MR2.... (...cue the not getting too close to the rear end of a hairdresser replies... )

Ah so it's not just me then - thank goodness for that

TBH it didn't bother me that much, but when some dumb shmuck in a shuttle bus is prepared to act the idiot in heavy rain with a bus load of passengers then I start to worry and my temper starts to go I'm sad to say.

Deep breath, big smile

I think you're right my missus gets this in her Mazda Sport. It's nothing special but testosterone seems to kick in and "they" don't like being overtaken by a woman. Absolute madness.

I've found the pr1cks out there who see the Scoob and go out of their way to be a pain. Either driving up the middle of the road not sure what lane they want to be in or slow down to 20 mph is another favourite. I wouldnt mind if I'm driving badly but this isnt the case in these instances.

Fortunately I haven't had the hand gestures or mouthing off that some of you experience but then I'm not renowned for my patience with these sort of people.

The upside is I generally get let out of junctions quickly, kids always say nice motor Mister and I've met some fantastic new peeps owning the Scoob. All that aint too bad really

I posted a thread a month or so ago because I noticed a huge difference in the attitude of other drivers when I changed my 98 Wagon for a WR1.

Definitely get a lot more aggression and people being abusive for no good reason. To some extent more so than when I am driving a mid-engined exotic..... So it defies reason.

Having said that I have also noticed the upside that in most cases people do let you out of junctions and 'normal' motorists move over for you more quickly on dual carriage ways and motorways.

I just do my best to carry on enjoying the car and ignore the idiots

Just the other week i had a 4x4 pull out on me and give me the finger, followed by a bmw doing the same. A mercedes clk was right behind the bm too.

Alot of it is jealousy or other road users trying to show you whos boss IMO
