Default advice on wrx sti v5 purchase

hi all

just put a deposit on a wrx sti v5 it has one owner and 28000 miles imported from brand new (been traded in and this is the dealer selling it on)just had the aa check back here are the notes any advice appreciated i would rather walk away and lose the deposit than have a **** load of probs

paint needs to be patched up in places (passenger door needs
service due as not serviced since 21000 miles
gear box fluid low
juddering when pulling off and whine in transmission in 2nd gear
front panels resprayed but no accident damage
engine oil leak (maybe a gasket)
air con needs regassing
central locking not working
anti roll bar broken needs replacing

seems to be ok on test drive no black smoke from the exhaust etc

car was up for £9k but got it down to £8300. but with the gearboxnot sure whether to walk away no experience with sti;s andthe insurance is £1500 so just about in budget

any help appreciated

Unhappy

Unless you're mechanically apt, know the Scoob quite well and are able to source cheap parts, walk away.

As far as concerns the oil leak, if it's any more than weeping from the drain plug or oil filter then, due to the layout of the scoob engine, it will almost certianly be an engine out job to fix.

Gearbox whine normally implies worn, particularly if she's been running low on oil. These are a known weak link on the cars.

The cambelt should be changed every 3 years (45,000 miles), so if this hasn't been done it will be desperate for it (about £500 fitted, or £3,000 if it breaks and a valve goes through a piston).

I'm not sure what the service interval is on an STi 5, but I think 7,000 miles on the same oil and filter is pushing your luck a bit.

However £8,300 for an STi5 with 28,000 miles on the clock (assuming the mileage is correct) is a really good price, though i suspect the dealer is all too aware of all the above and so is reflected in the price.

I think i'd think about running for the hills!

Did the AA guy give u any recomendations?

There's normally some well cared for cars in the for sale section here that may be a better bet for you.

Get your deposit back if you can, and then look at this link!!
It truly is a minter, lots of people say that, but this one is for real, Chris is a real perfectionist!!! He hasn't even let me drive it!!
