IMHO, no. Its a good bit of kit but very expensive and a lot of the features listed dont work depending on MY. I had one and the lambda reading wouldnt show up, quite a key feature.

Very good for fault codes, but you can check them via the ECU connector trick.

The VFD one looks very though.

They all use the same format for the SECS adverts, Powerstation too.

PS - I found the service from the PSI3 chaps to be quite poor. I rang and rang about the prob of it not working on MY98 cars and they never got back to me about the release of the fix for it.

I know it's a fotopic one, but you really should click the link then...

VFD display in action...

Read out is excellent, lot's of functions, on the classic the Inlet temp. does not work (measured at the MAF) and also the second lambda (because there isn't one, )
I'm also 3 months further now (I had the very first Ecutek Monitor in Europe !!!), but still no oil pressure/temperature sensors delivered !!!!

That OBD plug is hidden on my car, just unscrew the connector and wired it in into the cable-forest under the dash....
Otherwise you always are in a fight with it...

Inlet temp on a Classic doesn't work on Eurospec cars becuase Subaru don't fit a sensor, on JDM cars with the sensor then maybe it does ?

On the Classics the display will read the oxy sensor output and display, thats all the ecu has available, on new age it will read in afr from the front sensor and also show fuel correction.

So depending on MY thenitcan and does show the ssential info if its available to show, not sure about the earlier pre- MY99 cars, there is a version that goes with Motec ecu's as well.

I have one in my STi9 and find it invaluable, for anyone wanting to monitor seriously then suggest go for the ECuTek version as that has three extra pages of display items (seven instead of four). Either from EcuTek or from us dealers.

yes it is "expensive" but add up the cost of the guages needed to do the same job ... maybe not so in that context

i have had one for over a year now and although my RB5 isnt heavily modified engine wise i still find it invaluable when i want to check boost and other figures. plus u can do easy ECU resets and get any faults codes that the ecu may have.

i opted for the defi oil pressure & temp guages in an A pillar pod rather then the add on kit for the SECS, purely cos I wanted some

Have one myself in MY99 UK for over a year as well. Bought direct from PSI.
Had no problems myself with service, and bought the oil pressure/temp add on as soon as it was avaialable. Quick delivery, with easy instructions, no problems at all, including EPROM upgrade to PSI unit for oil indications. The only problem the unit has is that when exposed to hot sunshine (have got the pod mount in top binnacle), the display is difficult to read (the contrast appears to change, and requires adjusting to make it readable, then when things cool requires changing again), but this has not been a big problem. would have gone for the VFD version, had it been available at the time.

Good point Bob, just frustrated that I couldn't get mine working on the STi I guess. Think the inlet temp would work, as you say, the Euro ones dont have the sensor.

Brought one from Scoobyworld PSI unti, VFD , expensive but found it usful already, already helped battery voltage warning, took it out for a run with side lights, charge back up, without may have had a flat battery. All bits seem to be working as they should.

http://www.psi3.co.uk/index.html

I was going to get one, but decided i coulnt justify the price for a load of features i may never use, and the displays are still a bit basic....

Top bit of kit - Got a Defi shift light hooked up to mine. Shift point can be configured from the unit.

Edited to add - Any probs on the car, and the shift light starts blinking a warning just like the display on the unit. You can then check the actual problem on the unit itself.

Just a shame we no longer use our Impreza for track days!
