Exclamation WR1 owners

Have any of u found if u hit a bump when 'off throttle' there is a one off thudding noise coming from the region of the centre diff?

My nearest and dearest has spotted it and i just wanted to know if i should get the dealer to look at it on Saturday when it goes in for its service or if it just a normal sound from the diff?

Haven't experienced that with the throttle off. Hit a pot hole whilst giving it some beans in third and experienced a bump from the diff but that is understandable I guess at it would of had to do it's work on short notice

That sounds similar to wot mine seems to do. It's not on every bump but i did wonder if it was just the did sorting itself out.

I didn't want to make an ar$e of myself at the dealers if it is normal!

lol that is nothing ... I was adamant that my fog lights didn't work, complained twice to the dealer before they showed me how they only come on with full beam!! lol felt like a right idiot??

Although saying that my pipe connecting the boost solonoid to the turbo did melt so I was right on one thing!

hawk ... love it to bits mate - I guess that must be obvious to the dealer as I'm in for the 5000 mile service on Thursday! Engine is loosening up nicely now so am really starting to see the power differences over my last car. Still needs an automatic IC Spray though!!!

Now I'm not a WR1 owner but am I allowed to comment?

Is the diff in manual or auto when this happens or both?

I to have a WR1, no.97 or was it 96,,, what ever.

This noise you get,,,, I also get this as well but it's when the right foot mashes the peddle to the carpet and also when I ease off.
The strange thing is it only happens when passing the local school at 3:30ish.

I've scored a number of extra points for fat and ugly kids, getting a 2x bonus if there ginger ones......lol........

Sorry mate, no noises coming from my car.
Could be the exhaust knocking a little ?

cheers

They aren't fog lights then, unless they're wired in wrong. Driving lights should only come on with main beam

Yep I've only had the car a day and noticed it this morning.
Nice country lane not doing any real speed and then a loud knock from underneath the car. Definately mechanical and not something rolling or hitting the underside.

I'm sure I've read about the c-diff making this noise before.
Oh and it was in Auto mode. Not sure I'd appreciate the difference of playing with the settings just yet.

Definatly in auto, not had much of a play in manual yet, i thought i'd save that until it was run in.

It's going in for it's service tomorrow so i'll check it with the dealer. If they happen to know...

This might be a well known fact but for chris's benifit, I just read a few sections of the car manual and on page 7-24 it says:

"The rear differential may emit a knocking sound when the vehicle is driven slowly with the steering wheel turned fully to either side. This sound occurs because of the design of the mechanical LSD. It does not indicate a fault."

The certainly explains my experience as it was a slow left 90 degree turn over a gated bridge.

I get a slight knocking sound sometimes when selecting Reverse to First (and vice versa). I think the diff noises are

What ever you do DO NOT REVERSE while in Lock mode. I've been told you effectively dragging your rear axis I'm sure thats going to produce a unwanted few diff noises!

Tony you wouldn't be able to hear as you probably have no ear drums left. When you drive down the road your ears must bleed

Cool

Nathan L. LOL

However, no knocking or mechanical noises from my WR1, just the sound of silence as the ankle biters in the back are pinned to their seats when daddy's right foot becomes heavy.

Nice one Blobster, I've not got any kids to scare yet but then there's always my friends...

Going back to the diff noise, or what ever it was, it now seems too have stopped. I told the dealer about it when it went in for its 1000 mile service yesterday and although they didn't find anything they just tightened everything up and it seems to have done the trick.
