Talking Running in query???

I have been saving the pennies and have finally got enough for my new WRX and I am part exing the MY98 turbo. Having never owned a new car before what is involved in running in the engine?

Also, I believe a pro drive pack can be fitted. When is the best time to do this, once it is run in?

Can't wait to pick her up. The time seems to be slowing down!!!!

Wahooooooo!

Gotta love these cars!

Stick to less than 4000 revs for first 1000 miles.Mix up the driving,ie ,not all motorway driving and not all round town at 30 mph(as if your gonna)!!
Enjoy.
Prodrive can be fitted at any time, possibly better after run in,an extra lump of power then when you have got use to the car.

Oh my god, those first 1000miles are going to be sooo frustrating!

Thanks for the advice.

Take it steady for 250 miles then start to pull higher revs.
Use brakes and gearbox as smoothly as possible but a lot especaially the gearbox and dont let the engine labour in any way.
By 600 miles I would be giving it full chat every now and again.
This idea of keeping below 4000 then having a service done and ragging it will do your engine far more harm
Most Impreza variants are struggling at under 4000 revs.

Can I ask what info you are using to be so sure that you should fly in the face of the Subaru advice?

Thats top advice, so many people are sticking to exactly 4000rpm up to 1000 miles nad then caning it after wards.

The gradual build up with lots of different revs is definatly the best way.

Its all about freely revving the engine, im not talking red line foot to the floor stuff at 400 miles, gradual free reving.

Have fun !

I have !

The best way to do it is keep below the 4k mark for the first 1k miles, have the car serviced and then every 100 miles add 500 rpm, by the time you reach 1500 miles your car will be well run in

I'm with TonyBurns on this - my new WRX is just coming up to 1500 miles and I've done pretty much what he suggests i.e. under 4000 revs up to 1,000 miles using varied driving, then upping the rev limit every 150 miles or so. It can be frustrating (especially in circumstances when you might normally drive hard) but it's worth the wait as the car is improving all the time.
