Letting a Learner Driver drive my scooby?
my girlfriend is currently havin driving lessons and i was gonna stick some L plates on the scoob (sti type r) and give her some practice, understand i need to have a license for 3 years which i have, BUT my insurance company literally laughed at me when i enquired about cover for her (18 years old), although didnt say it was L driver purpose only, do i even need insurance?
edited to say:
...YES, but at a stupid price, situation now sorted, cheers

Peccy.
Did exactly the same when I first met the misses and she couldn't drive. She'd only had a few lessons and I let her drive my GTIR with L plates on - actually she was the only person I knew who didn't stall it first time out due to the daft clutch it had.
We lived in a quiet area so wasn't a big deal for other road users as we generally didn't see anyone and I passed police many times without comment. As far as I know most insurers just won't consider it full stop but this was a few years ago.
If you get caught or have an accident it truly will be game over for all concerned. We only did it a handful of times and I started to get worried the more confident she got and the more she was watching the boost gauge rather than the road - time to stop me-thought!!
/edit - might be going mad but think I remember somebody posting a similar topic but I think an accident had occured - was a couple of months ago and pretty sure it wasn't a scoob?

Maybe he's gonna connect the actuator straight to the bleed nipple? That'd kill most of the power if nothing else!
Still a ridiculous idea though...

hmmm, think will stick to the local asda car park on sunday nights.
although chances of an accident on the road would be very low, she is almost ready to take her test and i dont let her (or anyone else for the matter) drive above 40mph
other way would be to get married, as my policy allows my spouse to drive too.

Are you serious ???
Even if she had third party insurance, if she had an accident I don't think it would cover the cost of the repairs to your car, only the damage to any other vehicle/individual.
Besides slapping L plates on the scoob is likely to atract the attention of the police just to check.
Not worth it I would say, cheaper to pay for extra lessons !!!!

In the news today a learner driver who ploughed through a group of schoolfriends was sentenced to 5 years in prison and banned from driving for 10 years. The woman had been learning to drive in a high powered sportcar when she lost control and mounted the pavement hitting the three girls aged between 4 and 7 years old. The driver was uninsured at the time.
Her partner was fined £800 and received 9 penalty points for allowing her to drive the car whilst uninsured.
In a statement read out in court the woman pleaded guilty to death by dangerous driving and in mitigation said she would never drive again. The girl's distraught parents made no comment as they were driven away from court by friends.
Complete fiction, but on your head be it.

Peccy most accidents happens at 18mph
I really cant believe you have considered this, also publicly stating it on a BBS too
Wont take much to work out what car is yours (as its for sale too)

you must have a screw loose mate!!!!
not only would she be driving it ilegally but if she ran someone over and paralysed them they'd have to sue her (and prob you) for millions! and they'd win! minor prang would be points + ban for her plus points for you also.
wouldnt let a FEMALE, LEARNER, drive my STi even if she was fully comp....ever!
