Not another Vs thread!!!!
if you dont like Vs threads then stop reading you fool!
for those who are interested, read on!
on the way home from work the other night i saw a ferrari 360, an aston martin DB7 and and a Masseratti (with the 'boomerang' lights)
not bad when you consider i live 2 miles from work! (i do normally walk BTW)
anyway, the massa seemed up for it as i noticed him right up my jaxxi, once we came to the juicy dual carriage way (which seemed to take forever in the traffic!) we both let fly...... i definatley pulled away from him up till about 80/90 but he then started gaining quickly and had caught me back up at the same point i needed to break...hard!
also had a burn with a Suzuki GSX R (i would assume a 600)
and i beat the little g1t! he started pulling away till about 70 then i caught and passed him kinda the reverse of the massa i guess!
he did have a passenger though, but so did i, he only had his girlfriend on the back, i had my 6' 3' lump of a mate!
all good fun

Another example...
Compared our work's Audi S6 (343bhp) against a standard Scoob (other than a P1 backbox and de-catted downpipe). Guess which won? Let's say as we both left the 50mph zone, foot to the floor, the Scoob pulled away all the way up to 120+mph... (German Autobahns, legal and safe). This was cheeseboy's MY00...
Second comparison was against Wurzel's TEK2'd MY00, and it just ran all over me in the S6 .

just read up on the massa, 375bhp and a top speed of 174mph according to Evo. me = well chuffed
the top speed would explain why he started to catch up quite rapidly

i don't think the bike was trying!
I got a 2001 gsxr750 and a scoob and the bike is hugely quicker than the scoob, 0-60 is a shade over 4 secs, and when i knock it down a gear at 130mph, it's still pulling really hard. Don't think you can compare the two

I agree with you about the bike not trying though - a Scoob would not start to catch even a 600 cc bike by 70 mph (not in a straight line anyway) - the bike will a hit a ton a long time before the car does.

maybe he gave up at 120 then, i dont know, he did have a passenger and with a bike that would be approx 25% weight increase surely....
raced my mate on his 600 gsx r and i know for a fact he was trying, as we planned the race!!! he had me from 40-80 but after that he was not pulling at all, so i think with a passenger this is quite a reasonable assumption...
why a biker who purposly slowed down to let me go next to him would ease off at 80 is beyond me....

Maybe the rider did not want to scare his new 'burd' or he wanted to show her that he was a 'sensible' chappie .... A (2003) gixer 600 will do the standing 1/4 in about 11.34secs@127mph , what'll your car do?
I wonder how many 'hot hatch' heroes think that they have the measure of an STiV when I stop accelerating 'for whatever reason' I don't want to go all the way? I bet I make their day too ....
Cheers
Paul

Forget about 600 and 750 motors. A Ducati 998 though could have been a 996 obliterated me in a straight line off the lights a few days ago and i'd say that no scooby is going to keep up with a machine like that no matter what its power.Fun to be had with bikers on fast open roads but if they get a sniff of a straight and thats that! by the way, i wonder if the bird had an organ donor card too?

recently had was in my car when we came upon a biker on the dual carriage way dont know what it was just big (ish) new and yellow??
BUT and a big BUT i couldnt believe how fast my car went.... after 80mph the bike did not pull away and by ... ish we had gained considerably....
after 100 bikes and cars get a lot closer

that is a daaaaam quick quarter mile but i'd have a educated guess that the majority of that time is made up 0-70, as i said, i know for a fact my mate on his 600 was trying as it was arranged & he's a nutter. he was very suprised himself at how well i did and quite disapointed with the bike to be honest.
next time you see a bike doing 70+ dont be scared!
BTW these incedences were all on dual/3 way carriageways with little or no traffic (i'm not an idiot)....well not completely anyway

You have to laugh don't you
How many of you have actually riden a superbike?????
I used to ride a 7 year old Ducati 888 Superbike(which is not a fast bike) and it would anialate ANY car on the road!! nothing on 4 wheels will be anywhere near a Superbike ever! even at top end unless you've got a car that can do over 180mph. Then you might be in with a chance, my mates off the shelf Hyabusa tops out at 320kmh, how many cars can match that?
So for all of you that think you had or kept up with a bike your deluding yourselves the bike was taunting you FACT!!!

Agree with Wurzel 100%
What does the PTW ratio of a decent bike work out to at say 190bhp v 150kg .... exactly
I've come close to the back of a mate's Ducati but that was through very twisty c roads and I was staying back from him as didn't want to understeer straight up his *** killing him in the process (ie. never race a bike ) and the minute the road straightened up .... see ya
Or another example... my mates 400 (or 450) zephyr (x reg heap of unserviced ****) was nearly identical in performance 0-100 to my scoob which was circa 260bhp.....
Most bikers have more sense than to even bother racing cars

Check my post re the 400 heap of junk bike that I pulled away from.... just up to 100mph
That's roughly what I'd expect as anything else with a decent rider will leave you for dead.
Superbikes are a different class .... but with any bike it's a simple case of power v weight ratio...even my Cannondale could keep up

my mate and i raced, him on his 600 suzuki gsx r, me in my 280bhp Sti, he pulled a bit rolling start from 25 till 80/90 then i kept up with him. believe me or not, i dont care, my mate wanted to race, do you reckon he was just pretending to try so he could have a snigger on the way home!?! anyone with a 600 round essex i'd be only to glad to prove.....

A new GSXR 600 (official times) will do 0 - 60 in < 2.8 secs and will top 160 mph, a new GSXR 750 an easy 170+ mph.
Fast Scoob 0 - 60, say 4.8 secs, and lets be very generous and say 155 mph down hill.

This site is pretty interesting and not really bias one way or the other.
http://www.azmustangs.com/videos/bikesvscars.html
Deffo worth a view with plenty of car v bike vids. Pity the bike is only a CBR600, a good 600 but not up there with the latest tackle.

i understand what your all saying, i'm only telling you what happened.
those figures are very impressive to say the least.
dont know how to explain the race with my mate then....just that he has a suzuki gsx r 600, we raced and it was alot closer than i expected. maybe he's just a big girl then.
would be interested to go up against another 600, i've always been a fan of bikes. purely for the straight line thill they give...

I raced a bike that had a passenger, no idea what sort it was just the usual looking crotch rocket, and my STi 03 with PPP stayed with him all the way to 100 then reeled him quite quickly and had to lay of the loud pedal to stop myself from giving him a push
on the other hand I have been soundly pummelled by other bikes with just riders on. I assume bikes are like Honda VTEC's all revs and no bo!!ocks i.e. little torque hence stick another passenger on and they really struggle???
only guessing

exactly my train of thought mate, i do conceed that superbikes are faster than pretty much any car (in a straight line) . never have raced a ducatti or a hyabusa, and if i did i'd be very diaspointed not to get whooped!
a passenger must make a hell of a lot of difference to the bikes performance.
i do stand by my story with the 600 though. he was trying to sell it, if he hasnt i'll film it next time!
