I think the thread was more about a 600.. of which i've left a few down the twisties, let alone been level on the M-way... not hard to see why... just checked out the quarter mile times and there's a second in it for an average 600... and thats from a standing start...

Find a lightweight, highly skilled rider
Drop the fuel level to minimum
Find a flat grippy straight road/track
Wind the revs up to maximum (!)

After 20 odd years riding I have never abused a bike in this manner - despite running successfully in sprint events for a while. It is also an extremely difficult and damaging process to launch a bike in this way.
When it comes to bumpy twisty roads, anything sporty over 600cc will be very closely matched and the rider will make the biggest difference. 140mph on real roads is extraordinarily dangerous, over 160 mph and it becomes difficult to actually see anything due to the violence of the airflow. Cornering takes enormous physical effort as does simply hanging on!
A car on the other hand: well you might just as well be sitting in a comfy chair, listening to a nice stereo watching everything through a screen.

i've cought a few bikes up going over the cat and fiddle road from Buxton to macclesfield (Tiff Nedell rated it as one of the best driving roads in the country!!) i was suprised at this because i thought i'd never have a chance!! not sure on the bikes power but they looked 600cc plus.
