Question 22b Type UK - what's the difference?

Apart from the foglamps and rear badge how are the 16 Type UK 22B's different to the normal 22b? Were they numbered as UK cars or do they have unique chassis numbers to differentiate them?

Cheers

They have numbering plaques for sure

They are also official Subaru imports with full factory warranty.

Other things are mapped for UK fuel but have a look on sidc/faq or ask "Old Fart"

400 22B's made in Jap Spec
16 made/converted to UK Spec (by Prodrive) no number 13 as usual for Prodrive editions.

In addition to the items mentioned above. Type UK also had a longer final drive to make it better at cruising at the sacrifice of a small amount of accelleration. I think if you wanted to make this longer leg conversion to a Jap Spec 22b you're talking mega bucks.

I think someone on 22b.com was selling a set a while ago and they were not cheap due to rarity.

Yeah, also go look at www.22b.com or more specifically at the bbs

Crazy fewls! Driving lights, PIAA, not fog lamps!
Got some fancy-Dan foot mats, and a lovely Sonic BLue Ali bound book, but no numbered plaque.
UK model was stuck in storage for a year beacuse it couldn't be SVA'd in 1998 due to number of imported 'grey', so the UK ones got the new front headlamp of the MY99 facelift..wheras the 'dodgy' grey imports had the 'orrible old ones (most people I know have done this simple upgrade anyway on their imports)
Loads of great info over on www.iwoc.com
Besides the 15 Type UK's to hit the market 3 '000' ones were produced..some McRae character, his crime fighting sidekick Grist and *I think* some bearded dude called Richards got those.

They also had a twin plate AP clutch rather than the juddering excedy clutch that the import has.
Pretty sure that the chassis numbers are not changed but somehow can be found to be of a uk car when going to im for parts

Nope Daz, UK's had the Excedy bugger as standard..though a few got burnt out whilst being unloaded at the docks apparently, and Subaru UK then made the AP available as a second option when new clutch required...I had mine changed.
IM are buggers regarding parts, if an enquiry comes in from a new dealer (ie I bought mine at Tileys but service at Wilsons) IM make the dealer get loads of obscure facts (beyond just chassis number) to make sure the dealer really has a Type UK owner to get parts for...bless them for protecting our residuals LOL

Cheers guys

Has anyone tried to list all the 22b's currently in the Uk, both Jap and UK spec? I'm guessing with a relatively small number of cars around it would be possible to get a database of all cars in the UK.

Also what's it like trying to source replacement 22b parts?
