Default STi8 Euro Spec 2.0 litre. 520 bhp.

Owned by my friend, Icelander, Halldor Jonsson, 2003 Euro spec STi 8.
Prepared by Matt Clark, Roger Clark Motorsport and mapped by Bob Rawle. On Saturday afternoon at G-Force this car produced 518.7 bhp at 6400 rpm and 460 ftlbs torque.
Prior to the last batch of modifications this car was producing mid 11 second runs in Iceland. The car is now entered for TOTB 3 where I am sure it will produce some specatcular results.

Well this was probably one of the most enjoyable cars that I have mapped, it was done at Bruntingthorpe, the engine was brand new last Tuesday 25th, I went up that night and put a running in map on it (got home at 02:00 on 26th !!) and Haldor ran it in during the night's of the coming week (worked on during the day). The preparation is something else, full roll cage etc etc, i will see if Haldor will allow some pics, basicaly engine is same as in my STi5 apart from different cams and slightly larger injectors, management as before, same turbo as on my STi5 (for those that have been stating that it's "not a 500 bhp turbo" ... enough said !!!).

I think the turbo is at its limit though to be honest but it holds boost flawlessly, charge temps were rising only 15 degrees or so, ambients were in the mid 20's when mapping. We used a couple of tanks of fuel. Apologies to the 430 bhp Noble and the GT3 Cup Porsche, both were left in the dust on the main straight, and to the Puma club folks hope the demo trips were "interesting", as the engine was new we stopped when the speedo needle was pointing into the small digital display at the bottom, estimated 300 km/hr speed whatever that is in English and still going when we lifted off. We were able to lap Brunters at full chat time after time.

When the car arrived for the upgrade it had already run mid 11's, we dynoed it at Gforce and it made 402 bhp and mid 300's of torque, so a decent gain I think, designed to get into the mid 10's.

Despite the lary cams this car is so tractable that it can be driven with the right foot crossed over the left on idle only in 2nd and 3rd gear.

As an observation it is significantly quicker that the car used in the Evo article recently !!!

All credit to Matt Clark in the prep ... its perfection.

Fantastic result.

Would love to know the full spec.

300 km/hr = appx 186 mph.

I wish I had the money to go this bonkers. Makes my 350 ish look a little paltry and tame

Hmm bruntingthorpe is VERY deceptive, its so wide and there is nothing to gauge anything against so the impression of speed asa you travel down the main drag is non existant, it did feel really good when we left the Noble and Porsche behind. Big grins all round. The actual numbers are not so important as the gains we made which is why it was dynoed on the same rollers to get a fair b4 and after comparison.

Fantastic result. Out of interest how reliable are these cars at ~500bhp? How long do you think they can last as a daily driver before needing a rebuild?

/must resist urge to re-mortgage house and go mental with my Scoob...............

Excellent result - especially the torque figure - all from 2.0l

Will be intersesting to see how it performs in the quarter - Calder just crept into the 10s with around 530bhp...

...if the Iceman is VERY good at dragging then it will be close!!

And of course he is very welcome to join TOTB Team Subaru - he does not have to be a private entrant

Bob, has the AVCS been retained on the new engine? If so has RCM made some new cams for the AVCS? What boost did it run as this is considerably more power / torque than Daz's which has the same turbo

Damn fine result for a modified MD321 Turbo

Would be very interesting to know if the AVCS has been retained too actually.

David: The entry is already made thankyou. BTW, the Calder car is "pushing 600bhp. We last dynoed it at Thor at 528 and a lot of work has been done since. If things go O.K. we might dyno it again this week-end."

What a pitty. It would seem that rather than enter under the "Subaru" 22b.com team, to give us the strongest team possible, "Politics, and personal agenda's", are more important

It's a real shame that the "cr*p" can't be put to one side, and the BEST cars get entered into the TEAM !!!

Cool

WTF?
Mark:What's going on. Get back in your tree.
I have kept out of your way, quite happily for some time. I can have some fun at your expense if you want to have more silly outbursts. Just keep going pal.

I answered David's question out of politeness and I wish him well with his car at TOTB.

Halldor is not part of 22B or Scoobynet although his car will be of interest to members of each board.

"What a pitty. It would seem that rather than enter under the "Subaru" 22b.com team, to give us the strongest team possible, "Politics, and personal agenda's", are more important "

No politics or personal agenda on my part. I think there are more people wanting places in "Team Subaru" than there are places. As a member of 200+ Club I simply phoned Chris and made the booking. It did not even occur to me that it should be done under Team Subaru auspices or that it would cause this stink with you.

"It's a real shame that the "cr*p" can't be put to one side, and the BEST cars get entered into the TEAM !!!

Mark."

Sorry Mark. I did not know you were so passionate about it or concerned at getting the best team. I have not been on the board much lately so I might not be fully aware of what is going on but you are way off beam thinking there was some devious motive.
I think your outburst shows your true colours.

"It's a real shame that the "cr*p" can't be put to one side"
As far as I knew it was all history but you want to stir up ****, its OK by me.

See you at TOTB III.

Lets get back on topic......

I saw Halldors car at Roger Clarks when Bob did the map on my MY03 JDM STIgl they did the work on my 'little one' on the morning (80mm air kit and mapping) things went well and Bob was pleased ....so am I....

Helldor was there at 9.00am and waited while we did my silly little car it must of seemed like days not hours when we got back at 1:30pm

Its a awsome bit of kit looks like a WRC (all stickered up but not in swrt style) awsome in side and out the engine bay was a work of art ... full credit to RCM and Matt it also had no rear wing ?? is this intentional or was it yet to go on ??

The suspension was also awsome it must of cost a fortune...

Makes my 360/360 plus a bit silly really .............

Tal

PS Harvey I will have a pop up to show you the results of the map and get some nf when your free

Guys I have permission to post pics etc and will do so in the next couple of days, I can comment/answer some of the questions but not others as this was a step on in development terms. The car isn't just about the engine etc, its kitted out with full rollcage, suspemsion brakes etc with some nice carbon fibre bits.

Andrew that was the first session, we didn't finish on that day as we decided to make some changes to the setup, so it was all done and finalised last Friday.

Conrad, the engine spec is similar to the one in my STi5, cams are different and set up with verniers. Boost was set at 1.8 bar held all the way, it has an 8500 rpm limit.

The car is run in Iceland using Vpower.

Since Haldor will, at very great expense, be bring the car BACK AGAIN for TOTB and since we had heard that all the 22B places were taken with a good chance of some missing the "cut" it seemed unfair to allow Haldor that expense with a risk of not running, hence the separate entry in his own right as Icelandic Class champions (I will post something on that as well for interest). Mark there is no hidden agenda and I do think your reaction somewhat uncalled for, if someone had taken the trouble to check with me as to wether I had or knew of any car that would be likely to be good enough to support the team then you would have known what was happening or likely to happen. However, as I said, since the 22B team had effectively been stated as closed entry now then the entry was taken out as a private one. I really don't see what difference it makes, and this project is a RCMS/BRD one and has not involved Harvey as such apart from is generous hospitality entertaining our vistors during the long wait. There was actually no intention to run it at TOTB but Haldor is keen to benchmark it against some different competition and at a different venue. This project took over 3 months to complete this stage and was actually started early last year. there was not enough time to do everything at once then so the decision was made to run with std engine and associated external mods for that season. Hence the 402 bhp status last year.

Anyway as Andrew says back on topic.

Pics and graphs to be posted over the next couple of days, I will make sure that I include shots of the whole car as it really is a work of art.

cheers

bob

I will post up the before and after power and torque curves as well, just waiting for Sats results to be sent to me.

Bob,

I have no idea where it's been posted that the entry is closed ? The team hasn't been chosen, and won't be for a few weeks. This has been said several times, and why poeple are still being asked to put thier names forward.

The thread was started in April, and at no time have you expressed an interest, either for your self, or any other project you're involved in, even though you're fully aware of what's going on.

To then find out that cars had been entered under the 200+ club, appeared to be somewhat odd !!!

I'm sorry if I concluded that "politics" were involved, but that's the way it appeared.

Several people have mentioned that there were/are going to be "some dissapointed people" who wouldn't get into the team, on 22b.com I read this,

Dee Ireland/George Smith 10.98@116mph
Chris Jones 11.6s@???mph
David 'Trout' Taylor 11.7s@125mph
Alan McCrae 12.12
Steven 'P20SPD' Darley 12.42@109mph
Simon Houghton 12.59@106mph
Kev_p1_betsy 12.60@107mph
Dave Peck 13.50@100mph
David Wallis 13.58@115mph
Andy Forrest 16.40@84mph

Scott Parker
Mark Aigin
Christian Ruellan
Eric Dalgliesh

Done!

which appeared to be as list of runners and reserves, its of no consequence though as Haldor needed a guaranteed place to expend the outlay to get here. Any way glad to hear that thats not the case and there is still opportunity for a quick car and driver to get in.

As for me ... after my crap launching performance (thanks for helping with the advice there Nito, was pleased/relieved when someone did) due to never having participated in anything like it last year I felt I had no chance at all and it never even entered my head that I would enter or even be considered if I did.

John thanks for those words, you are right, there is nothing quite like the feeling you get when "a plan has come together" but I only mapped it Matt put all the graft into preparing it.

cheers

bob
