If your'e comparing the sport to the turbo then of course then the latter has the edge in lots of ways but if your comparing the sport to other cars then consider it's still a 2 litre boxer engined awd machine with lots of grip and is not as bad cost wise to run as the turbo
Simon
P.S. I had a sport in the past and enjoyed my time with it a lot

Im no longer in a position to comment on this topic as i personally own an sti type r and the other half has now bought a 1.8GL wagon, and i drive both.In terms of performance on empty roads, motorways the turbo is streets ahead, but as people say on here the n/a impreza can hold its own against any n/a car in terms of handling and performance. Now i know the 1.8GL impreza isnt officially classed as a sport (lack of turbo body kit) but it is based on the same running gear, obviously the EJ18 engine is slightly down on power albeit a measly 7 bhp.Now this model against an average driver in (cliche) twisties is surprisingly close in terms of handling. But around town the GL/Sport is no slower than a turbo (due to traffic jams) but is a lot more affordable to run on a daily basis and cheaper to insure. So both cars have good and bad points but the important thing is,they are both imprezas albeit different powered cars.It is the same car with different engines,a bit like comparing a sapphire cosworth to a 1.8 diesel taxi ie pointless.End of the day you pay your money and take your choice, why fork out running a turbo when all you use it for is taking the kids to school and doing the shopping
anyway im boring myself to tears here,i agree with mart close this thread as it will only turn into a slagging match with the blind fools thinking the only scooby allowed to be called an impreza is the turbos.
Nuts i must learn to post on my own name (scooby-tc)
ps If a sport has a turbo bonnet on it feel free to slag it

Blimey I'm not trying to slate the different models.
Having driven them both i know they both have plus points for different reasons. Personally prefer the turbo as do most people i know. I was having this debate earlier on with some friends, fortunatly they were more open minded on this subject instead of throwing all toys out to defend a name...
Never mind!
re pixxies...havent got a clue. i'll go with fairies, although sometimes after a night out you could side with troll!

I think the reaction is something to do with the fact that most of us have been bored to death with obvious attempted trolls along this theme in the past "Pixxie", so when yet another newbie logs on and opens up with a thread like this, we tend to draw the obvious conclusions.
Suggest that, if you don't want to attract too much of a reputation as a troll, you make your next thread a little less contentious.
The answer to your question, incidentally, is that Subaru make a wide range of cars, most of which don't actually have turbochargers on them. The Impreza Sport may not have a turbo, but it does have all the other Subaru signature points, from the flat four engine to permanent four wheel drive, Macpherson struts front and rear, and, of course, the Pleiades emblem on its front. Thus, the answer to your "Is it a Subaru when it's a Sport?" The answer is "Of course it is".

Don't start that one again.........
They all end the same way
Just one thing though - yes it is still a Subaru, coz it's made by Subaru. It's arguably not a 'real' impreza - but I think it is.
Look at it the other way - an Audi A6 - is it still a 'real' audi, seeing as it's not an RS6?]
Go away
That's enough. Not everyone wants a turbo.

Can I stir this up abit?
I drive a sport atm. Perhaps by the time I can afford/be confident with a turbo I'll be tempted by the darkside.
Completely irrelevant but hey

A turbo does not an impreza make!!!!!
a turbo adds lots of bhp to an allround well balanced and capable car...
you dont need a turbo to drive fast, and for the unwary is a recipie to disaster...
flame suit on!!!!!!!
mods i thought you were going to lock this one!!!!!!
Mart
