i have an my03 wrx sti type uk and have a sort of knocking noise comming from what seem to me to be around the parcel shelf or boot. i have made sure the spare wheel is screwed down tightly put the tools in a jiffy bag and wraped a cloth around the jack but can still hear it. it does not do it all the time mostly when going over potholes on our brilliant roads......
but sometimes i go over a pothole and nothing. has anyone else had anything like this happen to them. please let me know as there is nothing worse than having a noise i can not fix.

 

Could be something as simple as your spoiler rattling perhaps - easy enough to check as well. Check your rear seats to make sure they're correctly fastened down as well (I had some terrible noises from mine when someone took them out and put them back in again).

Also check your brake callipers as I had a clanging noise (almost metalic) from one of my Scoob's when the metal brace that fits between the callipers came loose and fell off, producing a very annoying noise especially when going over bumps in the road - compare one side of the car to the other to see there difference.

Other than that, get it down to the Scoob garage and get them to sit in the car with ya over a nice bumpy road (I found a nice one near my dealer before going in - do the same until you find a road that you can hear the noise every time you go down it and then take them down it, or let him drive it down there).

I don't get any knocking noises on my 03STi although just lately I have heard a strange squeaking noise from the rear when driving over potholes One for the dealer to look at me thinks!

Mencap Rally, this coming saturday, at the little chef services on the outskirts of town, about 50 scoobs + 100 others
plus the dorset meet which is going to be down the road (10 miles?), the swan inn at stoford, see the "june meet for dorset" hope 2 c u there, convoy perhaps?
