WRX PPP WR figures
Greetings All.
The following link is to the pdf file for PPP for the standard WRX
http://www.subaru.co.uk/IMGGB/WWW/Subaru_Accessories.nsf/NULL/FCF6E8E3044B3D2280256DDD00399AB7/$FILE/03MY%20WRX%20PPP.pdf
I know that its all about ideal conditions but are the performance figures quoted anywhere near reality - the standard 0-60 time quoted is more like the STI ?
(talking about a new WRX btw) ..
thanks
MArk

the WRX PPP tested by EVO managed 4.8 to 60 ,you've got to remember that the WRX only needs to do two gear changed to get to 60 the STi apparently need's 3

that should have read, 1 gear change....i.e. 1st to 2nd, on the WRX, i think you can do it in an STI if you bounce off the limiter, which obviously isnt that good for the car....its after 60 when the STIs performance begins to count.

I did say "apparently" sti-04!! ....
Make the WRX PPP 0-60 time seem even better then.
On one of the WRX PPP / STi debates someone was posting up that the reason the WRX PPP was quicker was because of an extra gear change.

It might well be 4.8; from my modest attempts it is very quick, however I haven't yet dared to juggle a stopwatch while trying it! I suppose that to do it properly I should have a passenger
Does anybody know the best technique - I rev to about 4 or 5K, then lift the clutch while gradually increasing the revs, but before the clutch is fully released, the rev limit is close, so drop clutch, slam into second, and this time the clutch is just about released before I need third.
WRX 04 PPP + Quickshift. There is a bit of a burning smell afterwards though, and the tyres very definitely slip (originals).
Got nearly the perfect road for it now, since they did some "road improvements" on a nearby dual carriageway which involved putting in two sets of traffic lights, and the now compulsory high-grip surface. Only about 200 yards between the lights, but I have been in third before the second set comes up. Then check speed - err...80, unfortunately one of the other improvements is a 60 limit too.

Thats the same table as prodrives site but there is a direct comparison to the sti as well the torque on the wrx ppp is a couple of newton meters higher as well if i remember right.

thanks for reply so far ....
I need the WRX (not STI) because of baby etc .. but wanted PPP cos it seems quite cheap for what it does. Added to that, LV seems to insurance the thing as a normal WRX...... and its capable of sub 5 seconds !!!
Crazy !!!! - (but nice)

Jasoon,
Yes, it's the Prodrive quick shift - in a moment of weakness I ordered it fitted. I like it, very positive feel, and while it encourages a two step move because of the very direct action (into neutral, then into gear), if you are feeling "enthusiastic" and keeping the revs up, it changes very quickly without even a hint of hesitation.
Mark,
Biggest factor with the PPP is the extra tourque. 25% up on standard, and it pulls away in second without needing more than 1500 rpm. The standard version is very weak at low revs. LV definitely insure it for the same as the standard car.
Go for it.

Personally, i'd take the 4.8 time with a pinch of salt.
I have tried it with a stopwatch (I know not the most accurate way - but if anything it should give a faster time) and I struggled to match the standard time of 5.5!!
But then my car has had some rather dissapointing results on a Rolling Road which Subaru refuse to do anything about.
Frenchboy (WRX03ppp 8500miles on the clock and no there wasnt any "Heatsoak" when it was tested!!)
