Thought this might be an interesting topic. Just been trawling the net dreaming lol.
Check out the quarter mile time on this beast 8.98 seconds at 153 MPH

This one isn't too shoddy either with a 2.8 litre engine and 500 bhp at the wheels

The 542bhp is an at the wheels figure!!! They find it difficult to calculate the flywheel figure.
With the NOS they are running between 1100-1300bhp at the flywheel. They are also going a little faster now and expect to record 8.5s before too long. On the video the rears 'bounce' a lot on the start and they reckon that is costing them around 0.2s. Also the car as shown is fairly heavy for a drag machine at over 1100kgs. They are looking take over 100kgs off it.

God no mate will be one of those drag boxes. My mate used to run a yank tank with a 2 speed auto drag box just for quarter miles. It seems to be the way to get serious times. That and lots of gas

Are they using progressive release type boxes?? Cant see how a none NOS 542bhp car can be running so fast? Esp' when you compare to UK cossies running 600+ only doing around 10.5secs.

is it just me or does that look shorter than a normal 1/4 mile, obvioulsy its hard to tell from video but some i've seen the car looks alot further away at the finish than this footage??????
i await the abuse.....
another thing i dont understan is how can mclaren put all their expertise and financial whack into a fully carbon fibre road race car that has well over 600bhp, titanium wheels, mental performance and that costs £600,000+ be beaten by nearly 3 seconds by a 4wd estate?

i believe "please correct me if im wrong" u can set something called roll out up where as if you have say 18inch of roll out then the 1/4 mile timing does start for 18 inch's or so therefore the car would be travelling before the clock starts.... maybe something like this has been down to "emphasise/massage" the timings.....the other wierd thing was there didn't seem to be many people around???

Is PMSL...
...I am not sure why are you questioning whether these times are real. They are real.
As I said above in an earlier post - this car is running between 1100-1300bhp, for the innumerate, that is over a THOUSAND brake horsepower!! The 542bhp figure is at the wheels, so probably equates to well over 700bhp at the flywheel due to autobox losses. This is before they turn on the gas. They cannot get a dyno figure with gas and so any figure is an estimate. However the figure provided is commensurate with an 1000kg plus car doing an 8s quarter.
The auto box is a specially built and converted four speed Subaru box and probably knocks 0.5-0.75s of the quarter time over a manually operated box. You can procure one of these from the owners to their design for around A$9,000.
Bottom line is - these cars are running 8s quarters, in public, no question!

Mclaren are good for low down power and twisties. Rigoli (or most Aus drag racers) set the cars up different so low down power they aint that good but when boost comes in, oh momma!
Put them on a track i reckon they will have trouble

Oh yes, that Maclaren Drag car. In fact it was pretty crap all round, it went round corners too good for a start. I mean, what self respecting drag car has room for a ful set of custom tailored luggage?
Utter crap I tell you, probably better off as some sort of monstrously quickly road/track car which has yet to be beaten for all round performance even 10 years after it's launch.

clearly i am. just saying a car with that amount of thought an £ behind it should kick anythings a$$, wether it be in a drag race, track day or a wet t-shirt comp.
on a diff note, how is the guy with the auto transmision reving the engine? or is he just using the handbrake or something?
