Sorry, I'm new..STi info required
Sorry I'm new and don't know where to look about. On the eve on getting shot of a Clio 172 and looking to either buy the STi or the STi with a "Prodrive" kit. If anyone by the way wants a X reg 43K with saftey devices roll cage and driver harness (not raced only 2 track days) its up for £6K - if not the dealer gets it anyway!! (quick plug...)
The prodrive is 2002 and the non is 2003 (boggle eye'd version v's the new'ish shape).
Couple of questions...(may seem weird).
What's a prodrive kit consist of?
I know it pushes it up a quite a few gee-gees but what is the 0-60 time of a prodrive. I like my standing starts.
Anything to watch out for, I spoke to a guy today in the Peterborough area who said watch out for RON levels in the mapping etc and wheel bearings - Anything else?
I've heard alot about piston 3 melting...Is that by design or by fitting extras?
Thanks and sorry if I've launched this thread in the wrong area.
Lewy.

If you buy a jap spec STi you will encounter fuel issues, they are run on 102Ron in japan which we cant get here, so u will have to run it on optimax & oct booster & if possible get a remap to be on the safe side.
The no3 piston issue is supposed to happen because its the cylinder nearest the turbo, so in theory it will be the hottest .
The word detonation (det) appears all the time on scoob sites & is one of the biggest cause of engine failure. there are devices you can fit to your Jap spec STi to monitor this problem, dont be put off by what ive written regarding the jap spec car, they are a good tool, & yes i have 1, so good luck to u
Cheers

The "Prodrive Pack" consists of wraparound fog covers, side skirts and high rear spoiler.
The "Prodrive Performance Pack" consists of power modifications taking power to over 300bhp by means of Prodrive backbox, ECU, intercooler piping and a fuel pump (on later models only)
You need to clarify which "pack" the 2002 car actually has.... (styling or power)
The 2003 model will be a standard MY03 STi Type UK with 265 bhp by the sound of it.
There will be a considerable price difference in the 2 models you quote, in fact there are a few 2002 STi's popping up for circa £15k now!
A 2003 STi (non PPP) will set you back £19-£21k.
My advice would be to get a blobeye (MY03->) STi PPP as you will be much happier with the car over a 265ps STi, plus they have slightly stronger residuals and better looks than bugeyes.

Are you sure the My02 is not the Prodrive "style" ??? i.e. Big wing, deeper bumpers and skirts.
The My02 had Prodrive and non-Prodrive versions, whereas the 03 came as one model with the high wing.
PPP is a dealer (and subaru approved) performance mod costing 2k on the Sti.
0-62 on a non ppp car is 5.2 and with ppp 4.8 IIRC. The big gain though is mid range, the ppp eliminates much of the lag the non ppp car has. Power delivery is smoother and you don't get the almighty kick in the back.
