Auto Express on Subaru's with Punctures
There's an interesting article today in Auto Express about a chap who went to an independent tyre fitter and was told his Forester needed to have all 4 tyres replaced becuase he had a puncture.
A.E didn't think this was correct (It would have been if it was an Audi or a Volvo V70 AWD), so the magazine contacted Subaru, who said no it was not necessary but replacing both tyres on the 1 axle is preferable.

I've had a similar problem with tyres. I put 2 new ones on the back and had 2 different ones on the front. The car was fine till about 80mph when it was about as in control as Dolly Partins t**s on a trampoline. Luckily I can get my tyres cheap so I bought another 2 the next day.

Its AWD so if you have 1 worn tyre and 1 good tyre on the same axle, try pushing hard on wet twisties. You will have your answer .
Basically it gives different traction and hence advisable to change at least both on the same axle but does depend on the state of the other tyres

Had the same argument in a tyre place about 3-years ago in my original classic. Ended up phoning the local Scooby dealer from their phone and getting the guys in the parts department to tell them that changing one axle only was fine. Even then the guy on the tyre center desk was still muttering about it. If I'd taken their word for it I'd have been well out of pocket - question is how many less sceptical (or tight) people have stumped up unnecessary readies on their say so???
