Is it worth extending the warranty into the 6th year. I have an MY99 and have been sent the renewal of £405 for 1 extra years cover. My question is should i buy it or is there other alternatives? Car has just had a warranty claim this week where they sorted an oil leak from the back of the engine.

technicaly IMO no its not, if it was worth it, there would be a greater chance of it going wrong and costing you more then £405 to fix

ovbviously this doesnt fare to well with the warrenty companys, if they did this they wouldnt make much money

its worth it for piece of mind, but going by averages and risks involved, technicaly its not, although its all down to the individual case

Subaru exended Warranty:-

Either

A) A total waste of money, vastly overpriced etc etc

or

B) An absolute bargain, do it now

I fall into the B) category. If I hadn't, £2500 would have been required even though the car was perfectly maintained, oiled and cared for.

If you can afford it, the decision is easy

new starter motor, faulty elec window switch, full engine rebuild after melting pistons on my my97 ppp last march, £360 warranty well spent, at least you know you wont pay any more than that!

Oh I. definately worth it.

Try warranty holdongs first though and haggle with them too.

They paid out over £1700 las year for my car. Loads of new bits.

Warranty cost me about £250 I think, may have been near £300, I know it was much less than £400 anyway.

Other than that see if you can get a discount from Scooby dealer. Maybe worth a ring around, they make massive margins on these.

I recently bought a MY00 Classic and negotiated a 2 Year extended warranty for peace of mind.

Car just came back today after fault with O2 sensor. I know if there is anything amiss my local Subaru dealer is happy to deal with it. And because its a Subaru warranty there are no If's and but's if anything goes wrong.

Yes I believe many scoobynetters have had a torrid time with aftermarket warranty suppliers trying to get them to actually pay for a claim, so stick with subaru

Definately worth it, I've had a new rear diff, wheelbearing and housing, O2 sensor and maf sensor and had a stuck wastegate repaired for which they had to recover me from Coventry. (MY99 PPP)

Only worth it perhaps if your car has NO Aftermarket mods!
Otherwise it won't be covered.

A very good point worth repeating. If you've made modifications, and melt a piston, don't expect Subaru to cough up when you try claiming for your £2500 engine rebuild...

We have just gone through this, as the P1 is 3 years old. On balance, we decided to extend (£400 odd for two years) - covers everything the first warranty did except bodywork and still includes breakdown recovery (Mondial). Breakdown alone is c£100 a year (?) otherwise and my other half's in the motor trade and thinks we'd be daft not to.

I must admit I wavered (they were quite unhelpful at first, saying I'd breached the warranty by servicing every 7,500 miles rather than every 6 months - pointed out it's "either or" not "the earlier of" and they're fine with it now.

Just to give you my view, the extended warrenty was well worth it.... Its already covered around £600's worth + you get the added assurance incase it does break down.
