Is optimax top trumps a con?
Need 24 different card to win. If no one gets them heres what the promoters do (published terms and conditions)
"In the event of no winning claims being received by 30th April 2004, the Promoter reserves the right to randomly select a person from the list of both Optimax customers on one day at 2 randomly selected Shell Service Stations and to declare that person the winner. In this case, only one prize given away which shall be one of the cars shown on the Top Trumps cards as selected by the Promoter."
Cheapest car in the pack is an Alpha at £26K. was this the plan all along?
Bit like Shells oil reserves - We'll count them as real unless anyone looks to closely and then - hey presto we'll revalue them!!!

Heres a thought for you, how many people have just passed the cards back to the kids in the car. Little Jonny not knowing how important his Masseratti GT card really is? Imo. Then theres the snobs who bin their Masseratti GT card straight away.

I would have thought that their is a fair chance that the maserati gt car could have been given to someone who would not realise its significance and just bin it.
I wonder what percentage of people who are given the cards actually collect them.

I'm collecting - but I can't believe the amount of times I have to ask for the cards as they are not voluntarily given out at a lot of the stations!. Bet that the petrol station oddball keeps them back for himself, every time I go in our local he hands me small bundle but as yet no luck.

I keep getting offered the cards but its just like the lottery, there is little chance of winning and if you do the money ***** up your once happy "wanting wishfull" life, so i naturally refuse them Im happy being broke skint etc but at least im happy

I have more than 300 cards but I'm STILL missing 2 - the Jag XKR convertible and the Maser GT Coupe. I have had a free Motorshow ticket, though.

As for the original question, I'm sure it's a fair promotion - lets face it, £300K to Shell is not exactly going to be a problem. (They announced £6Billion PROFIT for 2003 last month lol)

Geoff, i know, but i feel it's a service i'm providing.
So, notsofurious, if somebody has the Maserati Coupe, why should they come knocking on your door, and not claim the prize for themselves? Are you assuming that the person who gets this card will forsake £'000s of its value rather than go and buy a few hundred litres of Optimax to obtain his/her missing cards?
Talk me through it, please.

Personally i would be happy to share £100,000 of car with fellow scooby net members rahter than risk being greedy and going for the prize alone, missing out and ending up with enough fuel to last me several months...?
You figure now?

It was just a thought. As someone else said, certain cards like the XKR soft top and the Maser Coupe are rare..co-operation is a wonderful thing!

There is no need for Shell to have released the cards at different stages; it is sufficient that they release only three of a single card. I get less than a tankful of Optimax a week and I'm only three short. Are you telling me that if the maser GT coupe came into my possession I would have to spend £50,000 to get the other two, common, cards? PMSL.
